Great idea Herman & will do. I looked through paperwork the origninal owner had kept and a local company here in Escondido, Pete's Tire, was a vendor for Monarch back in the day, and did some warranty work on this rig. I stopped by and talked to the mechanic who said they've done many MH's over the years, so I set an appointment for next Tuesday. I also read the rvforum and a gentleman named Mike spoke at length about a "Watts Link" he designed and installed and that the problem lies more with inconsistent chassis construction of the Roadmaster chassis than alignment.

Even so, as the second owner and after 15 years and 68,000 miles, I'd feel more comfortable having someone check the steering set up and be able to discuss it with me. I'll keep you posted. Dan

Well, forget about Pete's...I brought the Monaco in this morning at 8 and, upon further reflection, they said they couldn't do the alignment after all.

So, still looking. I'll give Holland a call and see what they say.

Under stand, but I believe his unit is a solid front axle. Most of the time it is toe in then caster and then

camber, God forgive if it's the later. Takes really good shop to correct camber on a solid axle.

Herman, I received an email from what constitutes Monaco these days and it contained the following:

    1) A disclaimer that read " DISCLAIMER:

I don't remember the name or location in southern Ca, but Google Henderson.  There are as I remember 2 authorized locations outside of the home locations, one in Illinois and one in southern CA.  I had a solid front axle front end, they did a perfect job.  The tech drove our motor home 4 times before he was satisfied. Sorry I cannot give you more information than that, it was about 10 years ago on our previous motor home.

Can't find a listing in CA or IL. Dan

    Dan,

Contact Monaco with your coach number. Ask for tech service. You can do it on line. Ask for the alignment specs. Then go to your local truck dealer and ask where they have their truck aligned.

If you have constant wandering it sounds like you have a toe in problem. Constant wandering indicates it is toe'd out too much.

  5. We had a very loud racket coming from the door on our 2001 Monarch and tracked it down to the hinges. I found it by spraying WD-40 on them and immediately noticed the noise was gone! In the last few days, I got some white grease and worked it well into the top and bottom hinges...and greased the joints of the restraining arm at the top of the door. I also greased the closures at the two points that secure the door to the body. While I haven't taken it out yet, I'm expecting a nice, quite ride. Dan

  6. Thanks Brett.

The top of the yellow in the air minder is at approximately 17. Does not look like there is any restriction in the air filter. I was reading the article on engine tuners in the new Escapee magazine and it sounded good, but have reservations about using one. I had a 1990 Monaco Signature with a L- 10 Cummins and I had spoken with someone at Cummins and they also recommended not to use a tuner with it. Based on this latest article I was curious to see if technology had changed. I average around 7 mpg while towing and cruising at around 65 mph. Tach reads about 1725 RPM and I was looking for a little improvement

I would say if your ISL400 is operating at 1725 RPM at 65 mph, something is not quite right with your running gear. Take a look at the attached link about this engine producing its maximum torque of 1,200 ft. lbs. at 1,300 RPM. At 65 mph, I'd expect you to be closer to that 1,300 number. If you're regularly operating at 1,725 then you're off it's maximum torque and that may be why you're wondering why there isn't more power. Dan

  7. Dan, I am in the process of replacing one window in our coach that has fogged. it happens to be the drivers window (small sliding section), I found this company www.rvglassexperts.com to be the most reasonable price for section of window to be replaced. Once you make the purchase you would have to locate someone in the area to perform the installation or do it yourself.

Thanks very much for the lead. It's the same window on our rig....need to see out of that window! Dan

  8. Anyone ever retrofit a fire suppression system into a coach engine compartment? Any kit recommendations specific manufactures etc?

I am considering installing a system in our DP and their is a bunch of information on the web with different designs options and a wide variety of pricing.

I just received the SS300-R4 system for my 36-foot Monaco DP. I used this web site: http://www.firefightmarine.com/ffproducts/products/large-format-automatic-systems/

I haven't installed it yet, but will before our next trip this summer. It was important to me, so I'm happy to pay for the extra protection....whatever that level may be. The extra level of fire suppression may be the difference between my wife and me getting out of the coach safely...or not. Worth the cost for the peace of mind. IMHO. I also agree with Brett that prevention of fire in the first place by ensuring the engine and it's component parts are in proper and clean operating condition is key. Dan

  9. We own a 2007 Monaco Executive that is parked in a covered space in a storage facility. There is no electrical hookup to run the onboard charger inverter. There are three chassis batteries (12 volt AGM) and 8 house batteries (6 volts each and wet cell).
When it is cold, I have a time trying to start the engine and sometimes I am successful and other times I have no luck. When I jump start, I hook the jumper cables (heavy duty) to my truck's battery (650 Cold Cranking Amps (CCAs)) and to two of the three batteries (950 CCAs each). There are two batteries that have the positive and negative connected so that I can jump them properly. Yes, I know that the CCAs are not compatible, but sometimes I am lucky.
I am researching the feasibility of a jump starter with 1400 - 1800 CCAs that I can use to assist in this effort. Based on some of my readings, there is one school of thought that endorses a portable jump starter and another school of thought that says that it is a waste of time.
In the past, I have removed all three chassis batteries and charged each individually at home; however, this is just a pain and I do no relish performing this task.
I am soliciting your sage advice and/or recommendations as to any heavy duty jump starter or if I am wasting my time. The ones I have researched so far comprise either two or three group 31 AGM batteries and the total package weighs from 289 - 300 pounds.
Please excuse the long post and Happy Holidays!

I have a 2001 Monaco Windsor DP, so based on my model, two thoughts: 1) There should be a switch on dash on the left side of the steering wheel (marked Aux. Start) that allows you to use your house batteries to start your engine. I've used it on my rig and it works great...assuming your house batteries are charged. Turn the ignition to "ON" and engage that switch to turn over the engine. 2) In the electrical compartment in the basement of our rig are two rotary switches; one marked "House Disconnect" and one marked "Chassis Disconnect". The owner's manual says to turn these to the "OFF" position if you are storing the rig for any length to time to eliminate parasitic losses during storage. Hope that helps.
