Guest Wayne77590 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 DW and I were out riding today, and as we were traveling South on Hwy-6 in Hitchcock, TX I noticed a campground on the North bound side. So, we did a U turn and took a ride through. I noticed a gentleman that appear (he was) working and his name is Kurt Doham, wife's name is Judy. We chatted for a long time. As I said, we did a drive through and the CG just opened March 1st. It is 39 sites, FHU. The water sites are on the bayou/bay and there is one continuous pier along the outer area (long pier) for fishing. The area is a nursery so no crabbing or shrimping is allowed by the commercial industries. People have been asking about campgrounds in the Galveston area, and this CG is very close. Although in Hitchcock, 3510 Hwy-6, it is right across the street/bridge from Bayou Vista. Probably a 5-6 mile trip to Galveston Strand, or beaches. This is a continued work area and they are improving on the area's between sites. The sites are all back-in, that I noticed, but are adequate in length for what we all RV in. Presently there is no advertisement or web site for this NEW campground. It is called Louis' RV Park. The present sign only says Louis' Bait Camp & Restaurant. Yes, there is a restaurant/bar on-site. A new office has been built but as of right now check-in is through the restaurant/bar area. I was excited that a new campground is in town. Here is what I found: 1 night stand $39 1 week stand $125 1 month stand 400 for 30 amp, 450 for 50 amp. I talked to Kurt about discounts and right now they only have Good Sam. I told him about PassportAmerica, FMCA, and a few other discounts programs that he may be interested in. PA sounded good to him. I don't know what restrictions he will put on the PA, but anything is better than nothing. To get a satellite view of Louis' Bait camp, type in 3510 Hwy 6, Hitchcock, TX in your map program and zoom in. You will see the Bait Camp and Restaurant close to Hwy 6. Just behind it is the new campground. Right now the satellite has not picked up the new campground, but you can see what the layout is. The Northeast shore of the camp is where the long pier is for RV'ers - not the public. There is another pier just East of the Bait Camp building for the public, and a boat ramp for all. I expect that once the word gets out that this is going to be a popular place. Also, Kurt was Texas Friendly. For more information, call 409-935-9050 I do not have any affiliation with this campground or any of its properties. Happy trails. Am I raving to much? __________________
