junebugii Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Are there any recommendations for a safe campground near Chicago? We will be leaving the coach for a couple of days to attend a wedding in the city. Also need a recommendation for a good kennel to leave our dog.
campy2 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Hello, There are very few campgrounds in the Chicago area. I recommend the campground at the Empress Casino in Joliet, southwest of downtown Chicago. It is very clean & safe and close to the interstate but not directly on it so it is quiet. The Casino was changing names to Hollywood Casino when we were there last fall, so check that name as well. We stay there when visiting family and have always been happy. Their Friday night Seafood Buffet is excellent. As for your dog, I'm sure you will be able to find boarding close by but the Casino might have recommendations.

Guest BillAdams Report post Posted April 11, 2011 Take a look here at the Chicagoland campgrounds. http://www.rv-clubs.us/illinois_rv_campgrounds.html#Western We have stayed at the Empress and it's very nice, very safe and a long way from Chicago. Depending upon what area in Chicago you might be traveling to there may be closer campgrounds. I do not have any experience with them so I would also check out rvparkreviews, Google Earth and call the campgrounds. As a side benefit, the Empress Campground is attached to a fairly nice casino.
