reymore Report post Posted December 3, 2009 We had the C12 engine in our 2001 Safari Panther blow up (#3 rod thru side of block) with only 41K miles. Oil analyses by Cat and Amsoil showed no issues with lubrication and operation. The rest of the bearings look good. One rod bolt broke in tension and the other was bent with the head sheared off. The bearing spun and was in pieces. The root cause could not be determined by Cat at this point. It appears to be a non-systemic, single point failure caused by a latent defect.
