In the temperate rainforest of Olympic National Park, tree limbs are smothered with mosses. The moss does not harm the tree. It gets its water from the rain and humidity in the air. It manufactures the food it needs with chlorophyll. Mosses are adapted to growing in low light environments and thrive in the understory branches and the forest floor.
