  1. We too have this struggle, love trees, hate trees. Today we spent one hour trying to fit into a site to get the right location alignment with the sewer. We had to circle the park three times and each time we scraped tree branches on the top side of the Rig and bushes scraped the bottom. We were about ready to just pull out of the park, but it was late. After we finished, we asked each other "What is the purpose of having over grown trees & bushes?" We know some people like the "natural" setting while they camp and I can appreciate that. A natural setting when it is maintained is much better. However, I can't decide if park owners are neglecting their camp maintenance (by allowing the trees to become over grown) or if the park owners think it's more natural and appealing to campers?? What do you think?
  2. We will be heading to Hungry Horse, MT after our stay in West Yellowstone, MT. We are deciding on which route to take out of West Yellowstone, either back up Hwy 191 or cut off 191 at 287 and take it up to Hwy 90. I noticed a comment in my atlas about a low bridge near Three Forks on this route. Anyone familiar with this road and the low area? Now the second section of our route once we connect with Hwy 90 - deciding between Hwy 200 connecting with Hwy 83, and up to Hungry Horse or should we take Hwy 90 to Hwy 93 and up to Kalispell; Any suggestions? We are 64ft. in total, motor coach pulling an enclosed trailer. Thank you for your help.
  3. We will be in Medora, N.D. in August and need to store our Motor coach for one week while we take our car up to Grand Portage, MN. Any suggestions on where to store a 40 ft. Monaco with trailer? Thank you.
  4. Hello, we just went through this process. Try using ehealthinsurance online @ http://www.ehealthinsurance.com We found our high deductible plan with them. AARP offers a few good ones. The ehealth website is easy to use and provides a lot of information. Good Luck.
  5. Hello, We traveled a similar route last year. Just as other have mentioned, the Motor Carrier's Atlas is a must have, it saved us several times. I would also recommend the Big Rigs Resorts & Campground book for locating places to stay. I've had a lot of success with this book. We stayed at the following resorts, which might be of interest. (we are a total of 64 ft with tow and these campgrounds could handle us) - Newburgh, NY KOA - nice park, nice staff. They also do bus trips into NYC if you don't want to take your toad. We actually moved our RV into their storage area (only $7 a night) and drove our toad to NYC and Long Island to visit friends. Apple Island RV Marina & Campground, South Hero, Vt (near Burlington, VT). Really liked this park. It has a small, nice golf course on property. Nice pool too. Twin Mountain Motor Court & RV park, Twin Mountain, N.H. This is a small park, nothing fancy but easy in and good location to the White Mountains. Also a side note.......I'm the navigator too.......however, my husband has changed it to naGigator....since I'm always telling him where to go.....it has been a funny joke on board for us. Hope you enjoy the journey. We LOVED touring Upstate NY to Vermont, to N.H. Maine, back to mid New York then onto Gettysburg...wonderful. Marci
  6. Looking for suggestions on campgrounds & road quality on Hwy 140, from Nevada to Oregon?
  7. We are investigating campgrounds near Theodore Roosevelt National Park and only found a few on RV PARKS REVIEW Web site. Does anyone have suggestions for a park in this area? Thanks.
  8. After a visit to Colorado this summer, we will be heading north to Cheyenne, then on to Badlands National Park, SD. I'm looking for help with the best route to travel (we are a big rig) and the best RV parks ... suggestions? Thanks
  9. We have a 41-foot coach with four slides, plus we tow a 24-foot trailer (65 feet total). We have a car and a motorcycle inside the trailer. We never travel to a campground without making a reservation and asking several questions regarding our rig fitting into a site. The best books I've found thus far for traveling in a big rig are: Big Rig Campgrounds gives a listing of campgrounds which take Big Rigs. The Next Exit gives specifics on what you will find at each exit along interstates. We can't fit into any gas station, so this book is invaluable. The Truckers Road Altas tells us about low clearances and road suggestions for large rigs. So, there are tools (of course, the Internet too) that help a big rig traveler, but I find I must do my homework before we travel ... just to avoid hassles. We haven't been able to fit in at a state park yet, but we love our setup and wouldn't be without the space.
  10. Great photos! Thanks for sharing. What route did you take from Grand Junction to New Mexico? How was the road condition?
  11. Great information. I will definitely do as much as I can. Sounds like you had a lot of fun there. Thanks for sharing.
  12. You make a good point too.....hmmmmm, more thinking on my part. Thanks every bit helps.
  13. Hi Gary, thanks for the information. Your words are similar to the reviews I read online. This is what worried me when I reviewed their websites. I saw the Campgrounds on the west side and they did look interesting but then there is the route to get there. It looked pretty windy and I don't think our long rig would handle very well. But, maybe you've been that way and know better. I did see the parks in Loveland, Longmont area and they are tempting because we will be heading north on 25 to Cheyenne after RMNP. However, making the trip back and forth to RMNP doesn't sound appealing either. Hmmm, hmmm what a puzzle! I appreciate your help. What did you do while visiting RMNP? Any must see, do? Cheers
  14. We are visiting RMNP in July 2010. I've reviewed the RV parks in Estes Park, and two of them are of interest but we're still unsure. Has anyone stayed at either Elk Meadows RV park & lodge or Spruce Lake RV park? What is your opinion? We are a large rig in total, 65 feet. We like pull-thru sites but it looks like we will need to unhook in these parks. Thanks for the help. Marci
  15. Hi, We stayed at Narrows Too ( http://www.barharborcampingresorts.com ) for the week of Labor Day 09. We had problems with our site when we arrived (didn't like it) so the staff worked with us to make us happy by allowing us to move about to any open site. Even though it was a busy weekend, they still had sites available. We reserved one of their larger pull through sites because we are a total of 65ft (with trailer) however the site was barren & too, too close to others. We ended up unhooking and storing the trailer in their empty lot area, then backed into a site near the water. This site had bushes, a slight view of the water too. Much better then the pull thru.....I wish I could remember the site number for you. The park is fairly close to the national park and has a shuttle to Bar Harbor too. You might want to call them and ask your routine questions that fit your needs. I liked the park because it was convenient, clean facilities. Hope this helps.
