juanclem~ The purpose of the auxiliary brake is to apply extended light breaking without brake fade and controls the vehicles down hill speed. You mentioned "canyon" so I would say yes, it's necessary to have a braking system, think of it as extra insurance for you and your family. I personally have a Blue Ox Patriot and really like the ease of installation and the fact that it's portable. Blue Ox is well known for their quality products and I like how they stand behind the product if there is a problem. Good luck to you.

GW Johnson, Since reading your response about the customer service at Blue Ox, I got to thinking and hope things haven't changed there. They've always been a very good company with the best of service. So I'm curious, have you ever gotten a response from the company since you've been there?

Mr. Johnson sorry to hear your bad connection with Blue Ox. I have both a towbar and braking system from Blue Ox and they've never steered me wrong. If you have any problems simply call their number and ask for a supervisor and they go above and beyond to help set things straight! I HIGHLY recommend this company and their products. I do remember I had an incident once where I called in and there was a lapse of time where emails were not getting through due to service issues and at the same time, phone issues were a problem because of flooding in the area. Perhaps this could have been a problem.

My only suggestion is to go to the Blue Ox website from Pender, NE. On the website you will find a customer service number that you can call into and ask a service tech these questions. Not sure on that system but we have the Blue Ox Patriot brake and really love that. It's lightweight and very simple to install. Best thing of all is I know the quality of all the products Blue Ox has made and know they stand behind them!

Has anyone heard anything about the Blue Ox patriot? Am looking to make purchase and would like any suggestions and/or comments that others may know of. Thanks
