  1. I have the King-Dome model 9702 (High Profile) and Directv, and experienced a similar problem twice. I think our models are of the same basic "model line." Once after the RV Tech worked on a windshield wiper washer problem (he had to get to it via the backside of the entertainment box containing the King-dome controller). What happened was he accidently toggled it off of the DirecTV satellite (101). Drove me crazy figuring and correctly that one out. My controller is the manual one that can toggle up to 5 different Satellites/Positions. The last time was after a trip from NW Washington down to Utah & Arizona. It worked fine until our last leg of the journey which lasted over a 1,000 miles. If you go to your manual, look up the different "Zones", i.e., bands of distances going south to north, and the instructions for programming the starting position for searching. On my 9702, you hold the search button down a set number of seconds for the appropriate Zone to start searching in.

  2. If you are planning to travel from Winnemucca, NV to Lakeview, OR I am not sure that you really have any other choice. Lower gears and lower speeds will take care of any issues other than a hairpin turn that you cannot negotiate but there would be road warning signs and an optional route available should that be the case. Unless you are prepared to add hundreds of miles to your trip I think you are going to be doing the slow and steady thing along 140. I have never driven this route, I am just looking as how far out of your way you would have to go to avoid it.

If I were to go that route again, we would go further west and up US97 to KFalls. The road was very beautiful and scenic up to a point about 10 miles inside of Oregon, then a downgrade of all downgrades with twisty turnies that gave me vertigo. I felt like my 40 foot motorhome was an airliner without WINGS. Heights had never bothered me before, that downgrade did. And I crept down it at 5 mph, it was that scary. Once we got to Lakeview, again very scenic, and Hwy 140 north to where it joins US97 was extremely pleasant and scenic.

  3. How'd you like the "Pucker Factor" coming down that No Guardrail hwy 140 east of Lakeview???? I road the PacBrake all the way down, and at the bottom it would not release which scared the BeeJesus outta us. Finally cooled down after an hour and released. I will NEVER travel on that Excuse For A Road Again.

  4. My wife and I will be driving the Pacific Coast Highway along the entire coast of Oregon and then want to make our way up the Olympic Peninsula spending most of our time there on that portion of Hwy 101 between Sappho and Port Townsend. I have had several people tell me that the western "arm" of 101 north of Aberdeen is pretty desolate and uninspiring - and am wondering if we shouldn't drive the eastern arm through Shelton from Aberdeen.

Any comments or advice would be appreciated - both with reference to the route and things to see along the way.

    Thanks.

A little known gem of a park that is right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca at the narrowest point between Vancouver Island and Olympic Peninsula, is Clallam County Park called Salt Creek off of State hwy 112. The view is a knockout, the rates are reasonable, and you are close enough to Port Angeles yet far enough away. It is only about 15 miles off of US 101 just west of Port Angeles.

  5. Thanks!!! As a USAF RVN (Tuy Hoa AB) Veteran for that heads up. I emailed my sister-in-law since my younger Navy Veteran Brother on the Truxton off the coast of RVN during that time recently passed away due to brain cancer which I think (from memory) is one of the 9 covered conditions, plus he was diabetic for the last 10 years of his life.
