  1. I tow a '99 CRV and can not lock the car with a key in the ignition..not w/the key or the fob(?). When I stop for any extended time I pull the key & so-far I've remembered to re place it...It's gonna be an UGLY day if I have a senior moment and forget...expensive too.
  2. During my life as a over-the-road trucker I always used the I-84 option to bypass NYC. I have used I-95 and if it is mid day or a weekend and no major accidents to mar the trip it isn't all that bad. But my motto has always been if you don't absolutely have to go thru NYC than don't. Good luck and safe motoring.
  3. As a rule the 5.9 and the Allison package is pretty much bullet proof. The pusher or front engine location is more a personal preference ... kinda like the Ford/Chevy issue. The 50K on the unit is a big plus as far as diesels are concerned because if it was maintained even 1/2 way well it will probably outlast you. If the unit works for you and you like the price, I'd say go for it. I own a 5.9 pusher w/an Allison and bought it based more on the interior than the power plant.
  4. This advice is the best I've seen in a while...I've done a ton of electrical control work and agree..even if you have a simple repair it is always best to have a drawing of termination locations as s**t happens and if there is a way I find it to forget that info. There are special wire markers packaged to allow you to put "alpha markings" on the wires..sometimes I used indelible markers and other times I used tape...the markers are by far better. You can get them at places who sell electrical supplies or on line at Granger or other such suppliers. Good Luck.
  5. Thanks. Your reply was informative and eases my apprehension. I am making plans for Berrien Springs. Oil has been changed, tires checked, clothes packed, anticipation level is growing. My Mom and sister's family live not 20 miles from there..2 birds w/1 stone..learning this way of life..spent the winter in San Antonio and plan to winter over there again.. Hope to see you there. George
  6. i got the impression the FMCA was orintated towards motor homers based on this statement.."FMCA is a social organization. In fact, perhaps the greatest member benefit is the fun and camaraderie shared by people who enjoy the common interest of motorhome travel." This was from the list of: Why join FMCA? #1>>> YES I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. I am asking what is the general reason people voted YES or NO on the question of changing the group focus. I'm trying to not suggest that a yes or no vote is either a good or bad thing. My desire to remain a member will not change. I'm just trying to get a general feel for the group as a whole to better find out where I feel I fit in. George
  7. I'm new to FMCA and am starting to receive several offers to join a particular chapter. My plan is to be at the GLASS Rally in Berrien Springs the end of May. Is it necessary I pick a chapter before I can attend the rally? Do some belong to more than 1 chapter and if so is it advantages to do so? I hope I've posted this in the proper forum. George
  8. I read this with an open mind. I feel kinda special owning a DP but then if I owned a 5th wheel than I'd feel the same. The idea that owners of motor homes are special and different from any other RV owner is a bad path to focus on. A ton of groups are sharing their membership with all and any form of RV use. I know of campgrounds that discourage or refuse any unit over 10 years of age. Why?? Because of the fear of "poor trash"? As it was stated we all share many of the same issues. Often a towed combo can exceed the cost of a coach. We buy from the same suppliers, camp in the same places, share many of the same goals. By including owners of other forms of RV forms we increase our knowledge base, membership potential, and increase our "friend" potential. In my view, by excluding other styles of RVs, we are like a church that doesn't encourage new members and thus "dies." How many coach owners owned other types of RVs first. I hope to share campfires and coffee with like minded people. George
