Herman, he used that as a treat, on numerous occasions....then he did it ! :P  Sometimes you got to pay, to play! :o

I and Linda, did the opposite....we both paid 5 years, best deal.

A treat?  Did you mean a threat?  I can't threaten a huge corporation.  I can only do what I believe to be right for me.  I joined FMCA in 1994 with an F number of 192XXX and have been a faithful member ever since until recently.  FMCA is not currently offering anything to keep someone like me as a member and while I understand that it is your hope that I simply go away quietly into the night, I may be the perfect example of why FMCA is in it's current financial crisis.  So, you can laugh at me with your faulty grammar or you can pay just the tiniest bit of attention to those of us who find no value in the various benefits offered to the 70+ oldies.  The only thing I have ever wanted from this group and the FMCA magazine was information about motor homes, accessories for motor homes, motor home dealers, new offerings for motor home owners and things related to folks who own motor homes.  That, to me, does not seem to be unreasonable.

  2. Are you paying any attention at all?  My membership is expired so let''s consider me to be NOT an FMCA member but I hear about this great new benefit from FMCA.  I come to the website to see what this great new benefit is and I find out that I cannot see what the benefit is unless I first join FMCA.  Does that make any sense to you?  I am concerned that it does make sense to you and this might be one of the reasons that FMCA is headed in the direction that they are.

As an aside, you are also mistaken that I said I would not renew my membership.  I said that I would not renew my membership if FMCA continued on their current plan and if they dropped the requirement that to be a member of the Family MOTOR COACH Assn you needed to own a MOTOR COACH.

  3. Still no information available to non-FMCA members.  Maybe this is a soft release and only available to existing FMCA members but you would think you would like all those folks who own a motor home but are not members to know about this new benefit.  My membership expired so for me to take advantage of this offer I have to renew from my expiration date PLUS 2 years.  Even so, I almost bit but I think I can get by with my current 4GB Verizon plan for the phones and the AT&T 22GB plan for $20/month plan for my computers.

    Hi dadesigns4u,

Upon 25GB of usage in a given billing cycle slowdown speeds will range between 70 kbps – 2.7 mbps (roughly the equivalent of 2G on the low end and 3G on the high end).  Unfortunately Verizon was not able to give us specifics as to what factors would determine who saw what slowdown speeds. Normal 4G LTE speeds will resume at the beginning of the new billing cycle.

No, that's DIAL UP on the low end and 2G on the high end.

  5. Hey Jim and Chris!  Good to hear from you!  Sure miss having a great dinner in FL!  We are in Brick, NJ these days but hope to be on the road again soon before the snow starts flying!  Of course they could send us back to MI so I had better be careful what I wish for.

Round 2 of the cellular service............ Tomorrow should be quite interesting.  Do we jump in and get burnt again like some of the previous offers that have come and gone or do we sit on the sideline to see what happens?  What to do, what to do......

  6. I don't do this when I buy a new car, why the heck should I have to do this when I buy a new RV?  Today I picked up my car after service.  The car has 119,000 miles and is still under factory warranty, I was given a free loaner and the week that I had the car cost me $10 in gas.  My RV cost 20 times more than my car but is built like it came from China, has a stupidly short warranty and requires an appointment months from now to get service.  What's up with that?

  7. You really don't need SS screws if the installation is sealed properly as no moisture will ever reach them.  A number of dealers installed KVH domes in the matter you describe and I think it was Winebago that did this with their old King Dome installations.  Of course they all leaked since there's nothing to stop the water from getting under the legs on the dome side (no caulk there).  Had they just put the legs in a bed of caulk and then screwed and sealed your standard screws would have looked just as the did the day the dome was installed.

    Bill,

The trav'ler was / is already installed and working.

I trying to figure out where the best place to mount the satellite dish is. I was told that there is already wiring for that as well, I can see the labeled cables in the cabinet in the coach so next I will climb on the roof and see where / if they come out some where.  my guess is somewhere near where the trav'ler wire go's into the coach roof.

You will have to help me here.  The Trav'ler is the satellite Dish.  If a Trav'ler is already installed and working what are you trying to figure out?  Are you trying to figure out where to install the interior satellite receiver?

  9. Be careful when placing an inverter too near your batteries.  This could be a fire hazard if the batteries are able to out gas such as wet cell and some "no maintenance batteries.  The Samsung is often mentioned as a nearly exact replacement for some Norcold models.  You might want to do a search on the Tiffin RV Fourm as a number of folks have done the replacement and at least a couple did full photo documentation.

Since retiring my wife and I decided we wanted to get out and see some of this amazing country -- so we decided we would consider RV'ing.

I joined all the associations, read all about coaches: Manufacturers, Size of coach, Horsepower, equipment, reliability - even which Tow vehicle we would pull...... I did the research!    We visited dealers around the country, looked at coaches, test-drove a bunch and settled on a new American Coach - Eagle 45A. Our first venture into 'the freedom-of-the-road'.

We paid the money took delivery and really enjoyed the first few weeks..... that was until I encountered the only aspect I hadn't researched..... service (or lack of)!

As with all vehicles of this complexity, there were some things that needed attention - many relatively minor and just needed adjusting - a couple very significant and making the Eagle unroadworthy .... specifically loose windshield that could be moved with simply pressure of the thumb and when using the windshield washer - the water came down inside the coach and ran down the back of the TV - due to the fact that the feeder-hoses had not been connected.

So, I tried to get the items fixed.... wow, was I in for a surprise!

My wife and I live South of Denver in Colorado.... we contacted the authorized service center closest to us.... they said it was a 4 week wait for service... so I booked the coach in... during the wait period they called me and said their bays were not big enough for a 45 ft !   I then spent 3 looking for alternative service centers... after communications with American Coach we were left with Lazydays in Loveland, CO....

They quoted SIX weeks before they could book it in - no choice, right - so book it in I did.  I gave the rep on the phone a list of the work required, she told me it would take three weeks to do the work.... three weeks!   But, no choice, right?

When the appointed day arrived, i delivered the coach to Lazydays and went through the list of work with the service rep that booked in the coach.  I confirmed I would pick it up in 3 weeks - all was set, all was agreed, all was good..... not!

After three weeks I contacted Lazydays to find out they had not, in their words, "completed as much of the work as they would have liked"..... Actually - to be accurate - they had completed exactly NONE of the work!  Not one item - Nothing!

They invited me to take the coach, and book it back in when the parts arrived from American Coach.... They could not, or would not, give me a date when that might be.

I explained that with a loose windshield and no ability to clean the windshield while driving, I didn't think the coach was roadworthy - they agreed but followed up with "nothing we can do, the manufacturer hasn't approved the warranty work and we don't have the parts!"

So, a little frustrated with American Coach for being so unresponsive - I called A/C customer service..... Lazydays had not even contacted the manufacturer!

The rep from A/C said she would call Lazydays to see if she could help... she did, they said they could get the windshield and washer fixed.... but it would take another week, seriously?

So, the point of this post?

Is this normal for this industry?

Do you/we really put up with being lied to and intentionally mislead?

Dont the manufacturers realize that their authorized repair centers reflect badly on them?           If I were asked by a friend if they should buy a motorhome, I would say "NO - not unless you want to be frustrated, lied to and wonder why you paid so much money for a vehicle you cant enjoy due to the appalling service provided!"

Yes, common.  Even more common when dealing with Camping World.

  11. You need to make sure the coach is pre-wired for a Trav'ler and not just pre-wired for satellite.  You must have the Winegard control wire up on the roof and 3 coax cables for the Dish Trav'ler.  Without this you are going to have to drill a new hole and run the control cable into the RV.  Double check and ensure they wire you up for the Trav'ler.   This will likely determine where you install the Trav'ler as well.

  12. The Matrix switch would have nothing to do with the Trav'ler.  You hook up a satellite receiver to the switch.  The antenna (any antenna) is connected to the receiver but does not interact with the switch in any way.

If you use that setup you will be able to watch the same channel on any TV in the coach (again, no matter the antenna).  If you want to watch 2 different channels on 2 different TV's at the same time then you will need 2 receivers or a Hopper and a Joey.

  13. Why would you put the onus of making this business successful on the members and not the owners (FMC)?  Yeah, yeah, non-profit, owner/members, it all non-sense.  The business men and woman who determined that this business cannot survive under the current business model have not done their job and have given up on keeping this business the original creative minds envisioned.  It's a good model as it is now and it's a watered down mess if / when they change the entire premise forged by the founders.

If those running the business don't know how to run the business they should step aside and let someone who does take over the reigns.  It's not the members job to pay the membership fees AND recruit new members just to keep a poorly run business running.
