  1. Also, with DISH get "snowbird" status and when you get at a stopping point a phone call will get the local channels changed to your new area. Sometimes you have to get a human that understands RV living. I have only had to do that twice in all the times I have called them.

The only problem I have ever had was when my receivers wasn't putting the signal out to the TV. I was told they had to send a technician out. I asked why and was told so they could aim my dish. I asked if they missed the part about my having an automatic dish. She said she had no clue as to what I meant. I asked for another customer service rep and the problem was fixed in about 5 minutes. The second customer service rep said they would "educate" the first rep about RVs, automatic dishes & how to force an update.

  2. We have used the Readybrake with the break away with no issues. It is pretty easy to install.

Theoretically, if the tow bar is rated for the weight you are towing it shouldn't have a failure, if you installed the pins correctly the towed vehicle shouldn't separate and if you don't drive on a crazy road (bump wise) you shouldn't really need a breakaway. BUT - Murphy's law says it will be needed. There surely is a sinking feeling to see your towed vehicle pass you!

  3. ForUrinfo only.....I have no clue who you are or where you live...but you really are clueless. Let me set the record straight (Something you should have done with a quick google search) But I guess you just wanted to stir the pot a little. I know Mr Mcbride, He is NOT a member of City Council in Van Horn Texas or any other town. He does indeed own the KOA there. And lets face it.. pop of 1900 who here is not friends with the sheriff, But being friends meens what exactly in your mind? For you see. the sheriff of Culberson county is a county agent and does not enforce the no parking ord. That job falls to the ONE city code enforcement agent. Who I can asure you he does not get along with as few here in town do. So are you trying to say one man is so powerful here he runs the city? At the time this post was started there were 4 RV parks in VH and I don't see anything about the other 3 mentioned anywhere. I read many forums on many subjects and have learned to take post for what they are..some good some bad, But if you want to be taken serious (anyone on here) Then please don't post in one sentence " I just wanted 7 hours of sleep, was not going to spend any money" Then in another " I will be bypassing VH, they can do without my money" Because it makes the average person say " Well no loss they were not spending any anyway. By the way for all you fellow travelers, The law was written for everyone no just RV's. 18 wheelers were parking on private property, blocking roadways, (Was so bad one day the school bus could not get through. It is not to target just R.V.'s You may park at pilot..same as always but only in the designated area not in front of the gas pumps, And you can laugh about that but there were 3 r.v.'s there last week blocking the pumps. One final note, A quick check on the internet will show that almost 92 percent of all towns nation wide have this same ord.

Parking on public property is one issue. Doesn't Van Horn's ordinance deal with parking on any private property other than campgrounds? Could you provide a link that says over 92 percent of local jurisdictions have anti RV ordinances? I did a search and it only showed specific rules here and there. There are many out there, of course, but they simply do without RVer's money.

You state it doesn't just target RVs. Are OTR trucks ticketed at the Pilot? It doesn't hurt RVers to stay away from Van Horn. But one would think with local jurisdiction having trouble finding revenue streams every customer dollar spent on food and fuel would help.

  4. Years back IN took the property tax on RVs (like sticks and bricks), added it to the license plate side and called it excise tax. When the revolt over license plate costs gained strength the political giants used lottery proceeds to cut the amounts. Apparently, the RV voices weren't as loud as the car & truck driver's voices when the change was made and Rvs didn't make the cut.

You can root around on mybmv within the IN.gov website and find the sliding scale. You may want to make sure the model entered into the system is the one you actually have. Two incorrect digits on my model had my rates a great deal higher than they should have been.

I am not a tax expert but I have a great deal of common sense & logic. I just call it the way I see it...

  5. Generally, when a business demands something from me and quotes any law I ask exactly what law and to see the part that verifies what they are saying. Many times that takes the wind out of sales. The worker bees are told to say the ________________ law requires it. That is not the case in many instances. The Patriot Act and HIPAA are two prime examples of over-quoted and improperly quoted laws. I am not saying this is the case here but one never knows unless you ask.

  6. When I did mine I had not received the memo about not doing the decals. They bled a bit but when I did the TSP wash it came right off. They look like new as well. Except for the divots from being in the elements for 13 years. But I guess shiny & divots looks better than dull and divots.

  7. I don't think I'd go with mop and glow.

There is (was) a product at Lowes RMP3 that is/was used. It has been replaced by a product called ZEP Wet Look at Home Depot (both products made from the same company and are identical). It is not wax by definition but an acryllic floor finish/sealer that shines.

There are three groups of people. Those that have used it and love it. Those that bad mouth the process but have never used it. And last, but not least, those that just grab some popcorn and watch the arguments and ponder using the process. The nay sayers can't seem to show any photographic evidence of problems with yellowing or cracking (minor issues due to poor prep work). I couldn't get anyone to provide a link to first person problems with pictures. When I asked I just heard a cricket chirping. They would only quote a third cousin's girlfriend's ex-father-in-law's meter reader's next door neighbor who "heard" about problems.

It is primarily used bt those with an older RV I think the Scamp people started it and have been doing it for years without issue. Google Red Max Pro 3 and you will find pretty detailed instructions and bantering. The prep work is key.

I am in the "has used it and love it" group. It took me an entire day to complete all the work. I did have the boss dipping & wringing the rags of RMP3 which saved a great deal of climbing up and down time. Almost a year later it looks the same as the day I put it on and it has been through midwest winter and desert sun.

  8. After I had a debacle of Dish not being able to locate my documents proving I was in an RV, they changed me to "snowbird status" and I have never had to resubmit any documents. I simply call them and play push this push that until I get a human then I ask for an RV human. I give them my service area zipcode and I get locals at no extra charge.

I have no monthly fee to keep the account active. But I have had the pay as you go for 3 years and maybe I am grandfathered. I'm thinking you have to ask for an RV specialist. When I called the first time the person was clueless. She wanted to explain everything but what I needed and couldn't seem to understand the concept of a home moving down the road to another location. I finally asked if they had anyone that dealt with RV accounts and poof - everything was fixed.

  9. Procrastionation at its finest. One of these days I'll get around to joining a procrastinator's club. I was joining FMCA today and realized I hadn't joined the forum. But at any rate we have both used, abused and enjoyed the forums for the past few years but didn't have anything to really offer. Things had been answered by the time we got to them. You guys are on it!

  10. Sounds like the town won't miss much revenue from you bunch of cheapskates. I always try and stay at the KOA. Great Wi-Fi and fabulous homecooked food. Try it you'll like it. Campgrounds are much safer and one's like this one are really providing more than just a place to sleep.

So we heard from the owner of the KOA...

After reading this thread this spring I didn't buy a meal and fuel in Van Horn, as we have in past years. We are returning and will pass the exits again and spend our money elsewhere.

They have certainly lost some business, I wonder how much they gained???
