  1. Thanks Dave, This is the answer I have been looking for and it makes sense. I agree as noted before a Brake System is a must for any towed vehicle. Jim
  2. You are correct as to the CO limiting use of rv camp sites. However, With the reductions in force and the war, the military in general can't suport the facilities with just active and retired users. And so, to keep them open the CO's have opened the use of these facilities to DOD active and retired personal ..Yes it is at the discression of the CO. but in general, active, retired military have advance reservations status i.e the can reserve a spot six months or a year in advance while DOD only have 90 day or less to make reservations. Active military have as walk up priviliages And some stations have open spots for only active personel. Some activities only allow the DOD personnell who work or are retired from their stations to use the campgrounds. All military recrationsal facilities are under money restrains due to the war. So if you can get a reservation camp and use a military camp ground; do so as this will help keep them open and in busines for our service men/women in uniform. 3. I realize now that I can tow four wheels down and do not need a dolly however I do have a dolly and my MH has a braking system. I also realize my dolly adds some tow weight but since I have it already and it has not been a big problem stowing it when I am in a camp ground as I am a class A 25 ft. with 2 slide outs and trying to bypass purchasing a tow bar and braking system (for the time being) and further note after consulting my daughter who is a insurance exec. advised me not to tow any long distance without a aux breaking system due to negligent operation of my vehicle if it or you get into a wreck. My owners manual suggests to tow backwards on a dolly which I do not like the idea especially since dolly mfg. say not to do that. So my question is for anyone that may have towed a std trans 4 wheel drive tracker on a dolly FORWARD and the check list for doing so. Thanks in advance JOY Jim
  4. SAJAY, Thanks for your input. I have ordered a 1992 manual. I have posted a reqest on dolly towing the tracker Thanks Jim Catawba, NC
  5. We have a dolly with electric brakes and brakeaway system, and we have been towing a 1993 Honda Acura for 3,000 miles. Recently, we purchased a 1992 Tracker 4/4 with standard transmission. The owners manual recommends towing the vehicle with the rear wheels on a tow dolly. My question is, should I sell the tow dolly and purchase a flat tow rig? The Tracker has been flat towed and has the attachments. I understand all tow dollys do not recommend towing rear wheels on the dolly. I am confused as to why I cannot put the front wheels of the Tracker on the dolly, because the transmission and transfer case can be put in neutral. Suggestions appreciated. Jim
  6. As retired DOD we have welcomed the privilage of staying at Patrick AFB, FL and Naval Weapons Station's rv camp grounds Goose Creek SC. At both we found the hosts and facility managers very helpful and curtious, and the rate were reasonable, the NWS is only 23 miles from downtown Charleson, good hook up and spacious slips. At PAFB they never turn any one away, and with in two weeks you wll be in slip with water, sewer and electric. If all the slips are full there is the overflow lot dry camping, again very good host, and managment. We are now planing a trip out west in the fall. hoping to stay at more military, state and federal rv parks.
  7. I am looking for info on towing a 1992 5 speed 4/4 Geo tracker. Anyone with a 1992 owners manual? I would like copies of the towing pages. Jim
