  1. Ron,

I was headed in the same direction that Herman stated.  My slide mechanisms are electric gear driven.  Sounds like Gramps had better info for your application since he has same set-up as you.

Our slide mechanism is a bit more handy to get to.  I went out and looked under the drawers and was really surprised at what I found.  Hint: It wasn't OEM and our laundry hamper is in that same cabinet.

  2. Carl....absolutely right.  I looked at some of the printed material and REV calls it a Roadmaster chassis.  Then looked at the data plate in the engine compartment and it said Roadmaster by Freightliner.  Nothing against Freightliner, many have them, but the ride was not even close to ours.  Even at 10,000 lbs more in weight.  We got caught up in the bling then came back down to earth.

Roland.....we are 2 hours away from MOT.  We're willing to make a day trip to look at a coach for you.  But, you'll have to agree to make our down payment if we see something we like.  hehehehe!:D

  3. Roland,

Let me chime in with my perspective as we've had the same question about tag axles and weight.  Our coach is an '05 Monaco Windsor with a gross GVWR of 34,600 lbs.    Loaded for a long trip I usually weigh in at 32,000 lbs. and change.  We bought this thing nearly 12 years ago and have loved every bit of it except when we encounter cross winds.  Trucks passing us, or visa versa, doesn't wag us around it's just the crosswinds.  For the time being (I change my mind like the wind), we are going to stick with our current coach and have spend some $$$'s refurbishing to give her a fresh look and feel.  So, when we head to areas with strong winds I fill the fresh water tank which does give me a bit more stability.

I also thought that a heavier coach would handle better so we test drove a 2016 Monaco Dynasty 45' with tag.  Fortunate for us it was a breezy day and I hate to say that our Windsor's road manners are superior to the coach we test drove.  I haven't done a weight to "sail" area calculation and there are a lot of other factors to consider such as chassis manufacture etc.  But again, both Deb and I felt our coach handles and drives much better.  So, decision was made to keep what we have for now.

  4. My owner's manual reads "Cummins Inc. recommends the use of high-quality SAE 15W-40 heavy-duty engine oil, such as Valvoline Premium Blue, which meets performance specifications......."  Note: "such as"

We are currently using Delo 400 SDE SAE 15W-40 which has a CK-4 designation described in posts above.  The beauty of this oil is that it has a backwards compatibility rating for those of us with older engines where original specs called for CH-4 designation.  That's the case with our engine.

Why Delo 400?  Probably because Deb and I have a collective 60+ years working for Chevron.  Maybe an emotional tie there!

  5. Hey Folks,

Back in October someone posted a frantic call for help because he blew up his black tank and couldn't find a replacement.  Lot's of help from members but we never heard back from him.

I recently stumbled across an advertisement for a company out of Houston that manufactures any holding tank for RVs.  The advert says they use PVC1.  I can't attest to their work as I don't need them but wanted to throw this info out here in case it's needed by another member.

  6. Interesting that they didn't find anything wrong and just reattached and cleaned the gasket.  Did they check your fuel tank for water?  And, something had to have caused the original fuel leak and loss of prime.  $685.....eeek!

I call the added fees: "Just Because Fees".  Just because the customer will pay if he wants his coach back!:P

  7. I noticed a glitch this morning that hasn't occurred to me before. When logged into the FMCA Main Site and I navigate to the Forum, the Forum site does not recognize me being logged in. After a couple of tries it eventually works.

Also, I posted something earlier, in the Forums, and was prompted several times to "submit." Thus, I sent 3 replies that were exactly the same.

Perhaps there's something wrong with my ID right now unless someone else is experiencing this intermittent glitch.

    Thanks......Blake

Can you talk about this a bit more. Specifically where to get the device from. I thought about an auto start in the event of a power failure at home but didn't know it existed in practical non home brew terms.

    Keon,

We just upgraded our system to "true sine wave" inverter from "modified sine wave".  We opted for Xantrax brand.  So, the inverter is the Xantrax Freedom SW.  The control panel is Xanbus System Control Panel and the generator start system is the Xanbus Automatic Generator Start (AGS).  The AGS can be configured to do many things including auto start the generator based on house temperature.  You'll need a module for that.

It's a pretty versatile system and will auto start your generator (you set parameters) to start your generator when DC voltage drops to a specified level.  Our old system did this and I feel a must when boon-docking.

The conversion was on a 2005 Monaco Windsor with 8000w Onan.

  9. dcotop,

Welcome to the FMCA Forum!  You may have limited replies for a couple days because a lot of the members are at the Chandler Rally.

You're going to have a great time on this Forum and I'm sure be able to impart your wisdom to us also.  You may try to add a signature with more info about your coach.

  10. Update:

Apologies for the delayed update.  Deb and I have had to make an emergency trip to attend some family business.  But, progress continues!

As you remember, we had to upgrade our modified sine wave inverter (2,000w) to a true sine wave inverter because the manufacturer hadn't tested this particular unit with modified sine wave.  So, instead of banking on a non 100% sure thing we opted to change out the inverter.  The good thing is that we were able to upgrade to a 3,000w true sine wave inverter because wiring that is installed in coach is 10g rather than the suspected 12g.

In one of the pics you'll notice that the floor of the refrigerator cabinet had to be lowered which crunched down the area where the furnace is.  Action RV did a great job reworking the interior vent cover and keeping enough head space in the furnace area for proper operation.

Action anchored the fridge at the top and at the base.

Today's pics show the installed fridge with the protective plastic cover still on the doors.  Next couple of days they will install door locks and a couple other items not related and we may be able to bring her home then.

Deb and I haven't seen the install in person yet but are tickled to death from the pictures and conversations with Action (Pete).

So, Carl......Real World, Cold Beer and Frozen Blue Bell here we come!
