It’s time change shocks and airbags. Strictly preventive, but I think 20+ years is long enough. Question is how to I get the right shock for my specific chassis? If I go to any on-line shock sites; based on year/model (e.g. 1998 Freightliner XC), I get one choice per manufacturer (e.g. one Bilstein and one Koni choice). I have a 23,600 lb GVWR version of the XC chassis. I think they made versions of that chassis up to nearly 40,000 lb GVWR in 1998. Does one shock perform properly for every size XC chassis? BTW – per Freightliner dealer, per my VIN, my original shocks are Bilstein AK2255 and AK2256. I can’t find a shock cross reference that shows those numbers (probably too old).

I just took delivery of a new Newmar DSDP 4018 on the Freightliner XC chassis. So far, virtually no squawks for the house portion of the rig, believe it or not. Newmar fit and finish, in my humble opinion, transcends that of our hallowed Beaver Patriot Thunder! Several assemblyline glitches with the chassis are easily remedied but bear mentioning, so owners can watch for similar items on their own units. Two have surfaced during my initial crawl-under explorations. First, an air line was bent across a nearby drain valve between the front tires, crimping the line/tube. This would fairly quickly lead to an air loss and possible roadside stranding. The remedy: completely drain the system, remove the tube end and dress, reinstall properly routed tube, secure. The first image below shows the position, this defect. Second, the steering shaft below the floor line is pinched between a condensate drain -- I love the way Newmar engineered these -- and another tube, setting the stage for eating through the adjacent dust boot and possibly later claiming both tubes. Easily offset to protect the tubes and boot. Second image shows the defect.

For those of you with Class B's.... How many of you selected a front engine diesel for it's durability, efficiency and substance over a gasoline powered engine? According to the National Automobiles Dealer Association.... mileage is NOT a consideration when evaluating "diesel engines" ... mileage is only a factor to be considered on GASOLINE engines.... Diesel engines are known for going 300,000 to 500,000 miles.... and I've been told that the entire coach will likely fall apart well before the diesel engine fails.... Please don't respond about Mercedes Benz Sprinters not being sold in North America..that is simply NOT TRUE...the 2018 Mercedes Benz Sprinter with the 3 litre diesel V6 is already out for 2018.... If you have anything constructive to say.... please share....

I have a 2014 coach with a XC-S chassis with about 31,000 miles. At about 17K I have to replace the king pins and now at 31,000 mile I am told I need king pins replaced again. Any help, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gary

Hello Everyone, I blew an air bag (air spring). I think that they are all original, but hard to say since I bought the coach (1999 Itasca Suncruiser on 34' Freightliner XC chassis) used. I'd like to change all 4 while I'm at it to be proactive. I called Freightliner but the price they are asking seems REALLY high I was given 2 sets of part numbers I'm guessing that the second set are the updated part numbers: Front: NEW 90557221 Old part number Rear: NEW 9057220 Old part number Front: HLD 90557249 Rear: HLD 90557248 I've been told that there is some cross reference that can find the same bag that works on this at a lessor cost from another source than Freightliner. Does anyone have any thoughts on a reasonably priced source? Thank you

As a newbie to RVing I am slowly rehabilitating a 1993 Aerosport by HMC, 34' W/ 250 Cummins. Transmission code on Allison MD 3060 is d-1, 2-1, 1-2. I have an appointment with Cummins dealer in three weeks, could not wait that long, called Freightliner, they had a tech on it in 30 min. I called the Allison dealer that installed the new ECU for the trans. and they said it is not a transmission part, but an engine part, Freightliner says it's a Allison part. Help! And is the throttle position sensor on the motor or at foot throttle? By the way, the coach drives just fine, but has "service" illuminated on shift pad. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
