I am curious if there is an easy way to shift weight off of the steering axle. I am not over but close and have a regulator to adjust the tag axle. My weights are as follows. Thank you in advance for any assistance. Steering Front GAWR 15160 actual weight 14440 Drive Axle GAWR 23000 actual weight 21860 Tag Axle GAWR 12000 actual weight 8780

We recently purchased a 2008 Four Winds 5000 31P, 31.5 feet long, with a Chevy Workhorse engine and less than 15,000 miles. To go with it, we also acquired a 2017 Chevy Equinox LT that we want to set up for towing. We are in central Indiana, so we talked to Waymire Hitch in Indianapolis, which uses Blue Ox products. Besides wiring the lights, they recommend the new Patroit 3 braking system and the Blue Ox Avail tow bar and accessories. They prefer the Patroit 3 because it's simpler than hydraulic braking and goes dead if it ever tips over, so it won't damage the Equinox's brakes. Has anyone had experience with this setup? The motorhome can tow up to 5,000 lbs and my dealer says the Equinox is 3,827 lbs. However, I want to make sure we don't strain the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 14,050 lbs. The motorhome's spec sheet says that unloaded (UVW) it weighs 11,990 lbs. I estimated a full tank of water, 2 occupants, household items and clothing and got 1,224 lbs. That's 836 lbs less than the GVWR. The Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) is 17,600 lbs. Subtracting 13,214 and 3,827 lbs, I get 559 lbs less than the GCWR. Is that an adequate margin to avoid straining the motorhome? Waymire says the margin is actually more because the Equinox is "rolling weight," which I don't really understand. That's a lot, sorry. Anyone have any comments on all this? Thanks in advance.

Here is an excellent video on how to learn the various weight ratings for the truck (tow vehicle) and the trailer (travel or 5th wheel). Walter Cannon of RVSEF ( Recreation Vehicle Safety & Education Foundation ) or his crew are at many FMCA conventions and as a Tire Engineer, I strongly recommend attending one of his seminars. This video does not get down to the loading and inflation of the individual tires but if you are the average RV owner, there is a good chance you are exceeding one or more of your safety ratings. If you are you are also probably exceeding the safety rating on one or more of your tires. To learn more about tires you need to review the "Tires" part of this forum.

Hello, I am trying to make a decision on towing either flat-tow or trailer. Ideally, I would prefer a trailer, so that I can use it to tow my classic car as well. I am not sure about the process of calculating the towing capacity of the RV - 2002 Holiday Rambler Endeavor - and figuring out if my Car is too heavy to be towed in addition to the trailer weight. The car weighs 5,000 lbs. I would really appreciate some feedback and advice on this decision... Thank you! Richard

We are thinking about replacing our carpet with Karndean Loose Lay planks - we brought a sample home to see what we thought, but, it the planks are pretty heavy - wondering if anyone knows of something like the Karndean planks that is a lighter weight? We like the idea of loose lay - We are trying not to add too much more weight to our coach.
