We are going from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Big Bend National Park. Any hints on best way to go and campgrounds? The atlas says there is an FMCA member campground in Carrizo Springs, Texas, but can't find it.

Several ways to go, but 44, 63,277, 90 works fine.

Several RV parks just west of Del Rio. And there is winery in Del Rio that has been there over a 100 years is you are interested: http://www.valverdewinery.com/

And between Comstock and Langtry is a great state park: Seminole Canyon SP with electric and water and dump station-- just 2 miles off U.S. 90 but with a great view. There are tours down into the canyon (hiking, but not that rough) to see some several thousand year old Indian cave paintings. This is were we normally stop on our way to Big Bend.

And don't miss the Judge Roy Beam visitors center (free state facility) in Langtry.

And coming out of the park, Alpine has a reasonable park and is, along with Del Rio a good reprovision point.

Try RV Park Reviews. It's usually my first stop when planning a trip and looking for a place to stay. They have user submitted reviews for campgrounds and although you have to take some of them with a grain of salt they are usually pretty good.

We visited Big Bend NP last March. We stayed in Marathon, Tx, a small town north of BBNP. We stayed at Marathon Motel & RV park. It's very small, only 7 sites, and is dirt rocks sites but level. It is still close to an hour into BB but a nice ride. There is also an RV park just on the outside of the east entrance, but I can't remember the name. Again, dirt sites but very close to the park. The park is so big, nothing is really close. Alpine, Tx has a nice park, http://www.lostalaskan.com/...... . But again it's close to an hour to enter the park. Hope this helps. Hi again. I found the name of the campground on the east side. It's 7 miles east of the North entrance to BB on route 2627. It's called Stillwell Store & Campground. The internet site is http://stillwellstore.com/....... It's not much, dirt sites but it very close to the park. I point I do remember is the road (2627) has a few rolling hills.

Note, the Basin is NOT accessible with vehicles longer than 24'. The rest are fine for any size vehicle. Rio Grande village has nice level sites and dry camping. There is a concession-run parking lot CG at Rio Grande Village with electricity.

And Study Butte on the west side of the park has a CG within a few miles of the west entrance to the park.
