dhg2397 Report post Posted August 22, 2023 I have a 2005 fleetwood southwind, generator will not start unless I hook jumper cables to it, when I unhook it quits, took generator out and had it checked runs perfect when not hooked to RV. Just clicks when I try to start when it is hooked to RV, shows 13.4 volts coming to the generator, new batteries, any ideas will be geatly appreciated
rayin Report post Posted August 23, 2023 Gas genset, right? It requires constant voltage from some source to run. It's time to begin checking for voltage at the genset starter solenoid. BTW that 13,4V is not your batteries,, it is the battery charger voltage, good batteries at rest should read 12.8V when fully charged. If you have voltage at that solenoid on one terminal, have someone try to start the genset while you check for voltage on both large posts. If there isn't voltage on both posts the solenoid/relay is defective. With any 12V issue, begin at the power source and test the entire circuit until you locate the fault, including the 2nd half of the circuit-the ground.
