Number Of 6 Volt Batteries

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to have a bank of 6 six volt golf cart batteries, or would this overload the charging capabilities of the motorhome (currently have 4 six volt batteries - space is adequate for two more). We dry camp a lot in the fall and having a bit more reserve for the furnace to run would be nice.

You can install as many batteries as you have space for. You will want to ensure that you hook up the batteries in the proper series/parallel configurations so you still end up with a 12V bank. You will need to see what your charger capabilities are, but as long as you have enough time the charger will bring the batteries up to a full charge. If your charger is small then you will not be very happy unless you upgrade your charger to something that will recharge your back of batteries in 3-5 hours.

Another consideration is weight. Is the compartment beefy enough to take the weight? Will adding additional weight to that side aggravate your coach's balance or will it cause an issue with the nearest axle? If you have not done it yet, fully load your coach as you would when traveling-full fuel, water, food, toys etc and weight each corner. The resulting values will tell the tale whether you can or should add more batteries from a weight perspective.

The weights will also help with knowing the tire pressure you should be running at.

Cheers

Thanks for the info. Had not thought of the weight impact, the compartment will handle it ok based on a visual inspection (will recheck), but will re-weigh the unit to check corner loads. Have not done it for a year, and likely we have accumulated more items of cargo
