1992 Ford Explorer

Recommended Posts

OK folks, I search the Remco website and was totally confused. I may have a opportunity to pickup a 1992 Ford Explorer with only 44,000 miles on the clock. It is in mint condition, driven only 3 to 4 days per week a short distance to town. It is an automatic but does have the floor mounted transfer case shifter. The transfer case can be shifted into true neutral. Is It TOADable???? If so & I get it, to tow, I shift the transfer ase into neutral, what position do I leave the automatic transmission in????

According to the April Issue of Motorhome Magazine, 1992, where they towed the Explorer behind a Safari, make sure the hubs are in the unlocked position, the transfer case is in the neutral position, the transmission in neutral, the key in the ignition to unlock the steering wheel.

The owner's manual has concise instructions for towing.

Curb weight for the 4 door version = 3937#, 2 door version = 3816#.
