Travel Maine To South Dakota

After several short trips in our 38ft Holiday Rambler, we are looking for a longer trip and would welcome any ideas from folks that may have made a similar trip perhaps from the northeast out west?

Any tips ,tricks sites for kids, great eating, sleeping and things, or places to see or avoid would be appreciated. Maybe even a Nascar race for dad along the way?
