jatc309 Report post Posted July 29, 2011 Has anyone had experience with a Montana LLC in Illinois?
Guest BillAdams Report post Posted July 29, 2011 If you are hoping to avoid paying IL taxes by registering your RV as an LLC in Montana you might want to consider having a very good lawyer on your side. If you keep your RV for more than 6 months in IL then IL has every right to come after you for their State/Local taxes. You will want to have the necessary paperwork and legal standing in place to prove you are not just using the LLC as a tax dodge. If it's your plan to simply do the LLC in hopes of doing a "legal" tax evasion you might want to have a very serious discussion with a local attorney first. If you travel outside the State of IL for 6+ months then you really should not have a lot of issues with your legal residency (unless you keep your IL drivers licenses). One thing you also have to be careful with is having an RV registered in MT and a tow car registered in IL. This is a big red flag which can lead to enforcement officials questioning the legality of the LLC. Whether you win or lose, you will have wasted a lot of time and money. tbutler Report post Posted July 31, 2011 There is a previous discussion in the Forum that examined Montana LLCs extensively. When you get to the bottom of the first page, there is another page of discussion. As Bill said above, you should consult a local attorney about this matter. Remember the attorneys offering these LLC's are selling a product. I would take anything they say as I would the word of any other salesperson. Consider talking to your local attorney as a second opinion.
