jav317 Report post Posted December 6, 2011 Is it ok to leave the block heater on during winter storage? I have an '02 Cayman with a 5.9 Cummins.
wolfe10 Report post Posted December 6, 2011 Not a good idea. That would use a LOT of electricity (same as leaving a 1500 space heater on 24/7) for no gain. Turn in on an hour to several house before starting the engine (time depends on ambient temperature). Brett
Guest BillAdams Report post Posted December 7, 2011 Not only is it a waste, it's not necessary and could cause unnecessary damage. A nice warm engine in a nice humid environment could cause moisture build up inside the engine. I suggest changing the oil just before you put it up for the winter, turn it off and leave it that way until you are ready for a trip (as mentioned above, NOW turn on the block heater).
