Rear Rumbling & Vibrations At Highway Speed – Intermittent

Recommended Posts

Rear rumbling and vibrations at highway speed – Intermittent, getting more frequent

1999 Safari Zanzibar, Magnum Chassis, Diesel Pusher – The rumbling sound and vibrations in the rear are the same as when traveling over rumble strips. Previously, thought it was the road surface but now it is happening more frequently regardless of the road surface.

Please help identify this problem.

ktbaillif,

Welcome to the FMCA Forum.

Check U-joints for play.

Check ride height-- that short drive shaft is particularly susceptible to out of spec angles. What suspension do you have-- Velvet ride or air?

Check lug nuts-- make sure the wheels are properly torqued.

Thank you for your help with this problem. It did turn out to be the rear airbags. Because they were leaking, it put a strain on the U-Joints. We are having the airbags replaced and the U-Joints checked out.
