Noise From Rear Differential: Workhorse 22

Recommended Posts

I have a 2003 Southwind on a W22 chassis, Recently I was backing slowly up a slight grade and turning at the same time to get onto a site. The surface was sand and gravel. I started hearing and feeling a "metal to metal" sound and felt a jerking that seemed to come from the rear under-carridge.

My mechanic suggested it may have something to do with a limited slip differential. It happened again while backing straight into a building with a 2" rise to get up on the floor. It sounds like a gear slipping.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing??

rayaustin0081,

Welcome to the FMCA Forum.

Has the differential oil been changed?

Has your mechanic taken a look at your rear axle?

Strange sounds coming from the rear axle or differential should be checked by a qualified mechanic..

Not sure the RV chassis come with limited slip differentials.

The rear axle on your coach came with a synthetic oil and should last for 200,000 plus miles, but under dirty

conditions that number is reduced. Weight axle can handle 16,500lbs.
