Maritime Travels

You are in for a great time. Add Bar Habor ME to your places to see. Arcadia national park is gorgeous. The view from Cadilac mountain is one of the best in the northeast.

We stayed in Moncton NB for a week. Lots to do there. Take the toad to Drive out to Alma and on your way check out Hopewell Rock (pay attention to tide schedule you want to be here at low tide) on the Bay of Fundy the find a place to watch the tidal bore. The views at Cape Enrage are also note worthy.

If you go you go to Cape Breton, find a CG in the lakes region and take your toad around the cape. You won't make it in a rig your size. Plenty of ports to take you whale watching. The Puffin tour out of St Ann harbor can be great at the right time of the year. Guaranteed you wil see bald eagles on you way. Great photo opp. If you want to go to Newfoundland catch the ferry from Sidney Nova Scotia. Expensive, but saves many hours of driving.

Lots to do in Halifax.

We didn't make it to Prince Edward Island aka PEI. Check to make sure you can take the bridge. Sometimes restrictions for high winds. But many have told us it's worth the trip.

We had no trouble finding diesel. Make sure you carry replacement fuel filters. We did get a bad tank full. The roads can be narrow with narrow or no shoulders. Hone your driving skills before getting of the expressways.

As for crossing the boarder, going in is easy. Comming out NO fresh vegetables. We just froze any we still had. Stock up on food before you cross to Canada. Otherwise you'll get sticker shock!

Can't comment on Diesel, we did the Canadian Maritimes Summer of 14, left from Florida. Bar Harbor Acadia in Maine is a great stop. We crossed and went to Kiwanis Ocean Front CG in St. Andrews NB. Great stop, great location. Then took ferry from St. Johns to Digby, Nova Scotia, stayed at Cove Oceanfront CG, great location, phenomenal sunsets, fresh lobsters right across the street. From there to Peggy's Cove then nor east to cape Breton Highlands. Use Your toad or rent a car and Make sure you do the Cabot Trail and Fortress of Louisburg. Heading back to the States visit PEI, but don't go the 1st Wkend in Aug. National holiday, hard to get reservations.

We had a phenomenal trip, no Toad but used rental car in NS.

Was just there last July, as a matter of fact we spent July 4 in Eastport and enjoyed the great 4th of July celebration in Eastport, the next day we enjoyed Hurricane Arthur for about 24 hours. After that great time we traveled to PEI and NS, if I had too do it again I would skip PEI and stay in NS longer. One other thought, if we go again we will leave the MH in Maine and go over to NS in the car, diesel is very expensive and most roads are narrow and rough, especially the roads in the highlands. We stayed about 10 days and moved three times Highlands, outside Halifax and then over to Fundy Bay. We stayed in the state campgrounds in the Highlands, stay in Cheticamp especially if you take the MH, go up the west side and drive over to the east side. PEI was OK except for the bugs, if the wind was not blowing we stayed inside, we parked on the southern coast with lots of trees.

Don't miss the south below Halifax (Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove) and down that eastern coast, if you like history. Fishing history on the east and early settlers on the west, if we do go back I think we would go over to Newfoundland. If you drive the MH go over to PEI first, drive across the bridge and take the ferry over from the south to NS, you only pay when you leave and it cost the same bridge or ferry.

Last year diesel was about 4.50 to 5$ US. , no problem except up in the Highlands, fill up before you go up and you will have enough to make the trip, there are some places there that have diesel but really expensive. The road going up to Ingonish is terrible and very crooked and narrow. Both roads go out of Baddeck, a little over 50 miles to Cheticamp and 65 miles to Ingonish,

We were there last year and had a wonderful time. Our GPS was not updated to Canada. We have Verizon for our phone and tablet service. We incurred roaming charges in the hundreds. I found out that Verizon has a out of country plan. The problem is we would have our phones on wifi but the signal would be weak at times then the phones would automatically go on roaming. Big problem. Loved the French pastry and coffee.
