Do Not Accept Bad Service

GenericET

I have made a lot of mistakes while starting this hobby of RVing. One of which is trusting a little too much on what salesmen tell me. I hate to burst anyones bubble, but not all RV dealers are honest trustworthy individuals. I guess it is a flaw in my character that I assume people are telling the truth and doing thier best for the customer. Here is the latest chapter in a long history of bad service from one dealer who we will never do business with again. I don't know if it is breaking a rule to mention the dealers name but everything I am writing is the truth.

We have had a gob of trouble with Beckley’s camper sales. They are the ones who took severe advantage of us when we bought our motorhome last year. We ended up paying $4000 in repairs after we bought it before it was safe to camp in. So we do not like Beckley’s. Unfortunately, they are the only shop around who deals with generators. We have the warranty through them so we have to take it back to them if anything goes wrong with the on board generator.

The last day of a three day weekend the generator quit. I was hoping that it was broken beyond compare and Beckley’s would have to put in a new one. I called Beckley’s and told them I needed to get in there for service. The guy I talked to told me he could get us in on Tuesday. I told him I couldn’t do it on Tuesday so I would drop it off Saturday. He said that would be fine just drop it off between 8:30 and 12:00. So we hooked the car up to the motorhome and headed down. I had to put $70 worth of gas in it which was a good estimate of how much the trip down and back would take. It takes over an hour to get there because it is clear down toward Frederick MD.

We get there and start unhooking the car and some guy walks by and asks our name so he can get us checked in. I told him my name and that our appointment was on Tuesday. So I get the car all separated from the camper and head in the service office to pee.

I come out from the bathroom and the service people are searching through the books looking for our appointment which they can’t find. They finally look in the computer and print out a work order. Well it turns out my appointment was made for Tuesday Aug 7th! The guy behind the counter told me that I must have misunderstood the date. I told him that Aug 7th is the middle of our vacation and I wouldn’t have agreed to bring the camper down the Saturday that we are at the ocean. I was told “Tuesday” not “Tuesday Aug 7th”. I told the guy that I hoped he have room to store it now that it is here and he says, “Oh no sir, that is one thing I do not have”. Kristin busted out the door at this point. I stuck around and argued with the guy for about 30 more seconds before I turned around and hit the door with all intentions to take it off its hinges.

So I jump in the camper and turn it around. I hook the car up with all kinds of attitude. The guy behind the desk rode by on a golf cart and gave us dirty looks. We finally get on the road to make the hour plus trip back home.

After about ten minutes of driving I call the service department. I apologized for losing my temper. I told the guy that it was not my intention to ruin anyone’s day but that we have a history with Beckley’s and should have expected to receive crappy service and not be surprised. He assured me it was a miscommunication and I assured him that, if it was, it was number 10 or 12 on the list of times Beckley’s has said one thing and done another. Also following the same MO which is “Oh you must have misunderstood”, or “That is not what we said”, or “This is not our fault”. I told him that I will find another dealer to take my camper for warranty work even if it is in Ohio or New Jersey. I just pissed away $70 worth of gas and a whole Saturday morning for nothing and they will not have the opportunity to do it to me again. It is not worth the heart attack. I don’t care if I have to pay $1000 in gas to get work done on my camper, they will never get my business again. I will be telling everyone I know and everyone I have yet to meet not to go to their business for sales or service.

So true to my word, if you find yourself at beckley's remember that they do not have you best interest at heart. They are the biggest game around and they have enough customers that they do not care about losing you.

It sounds like your title should be: Expect Bad Service! Or were you saying Do Not Accept Bad Service?

I almost never drop off my RV for service. I like to be there watching what is going on, ready to answer questions, provide owners manuals, question procedures being used, etc. I often ask to talk to the tech about a problem when the shop foreman brings me news of what is causing a problem. The person who knows it best is the tech working on the problem. It helps me evaluate the quality of service I am receiving. If I can't be there when the work is being done I won't schedule the work. It will have to wait until I can be there.

And one more thing... Yesterday as I was preparing to break camp with our coach I was giving the coach a good cleaning. I wiped down and the coach and shined it, washed the wheels and gave the windows a good Windexing. Thinking about my maintenance philosophy it occurred to me that I should add this. Whenever possible as I prepare the coach to go in for repair I try to make it look as good as possible. The appearance of the coach lets the mechanics know what standard of care the owner has for the coach. We just checked in at Cummins NW in Chehalis, WA. At the parts and service desk, Trent commented on how sharp the coach looked. When he looked at the mileage he was even more complementary of the coach and its condition. The point is that when a coach comes in looking good, no bugs on the windshield if possible, obviously cleaned and cared for the mechanics will in most cases be careful to do a good job. How you care for your coach and present it at the service facility sets a standard for their work.

I understand that you have had numerous issues with this service provider and it is unfortunate that you have a tie to them with the extended warranty. If at all possible I would simply walk away from their facility and take your business elsewhere no matter what the additional cost.

My Bad service came from a Campground in Maryland...Unbelievable!

Don’t complain about services, they’ll call the police and have you removed!

My family and I booked the Labor Day weekend at Merry Meadows Campground (formerly Morris Meadows) in Freeland, Maryland for Labor Day Weekend. Their website said their pool was opened every day up to Labor Day. We decided to make a long weekend and arrive on Thursday Night so we could have 3 solid days of pool time. When we arrive, our site is full of grass savings. I then her from the Life guard on Friday Morning that the pool will be closed because all the Lifeguards went back to school. She was only there for a few hours to clean it. I visited the registration desk at 11am and spoke with Lorraine. When I complained she slammed a complaint form down and told me to fill it out. I also voiced that I was upset that all the other amenities such as golf, race cars, driving range were closed too. I also discovered that exercise classes that I was excited about throughout the weekend were also cancelled. I requested to speak with the Manager/Owner. She attempted to call but no answer. I asked Lorraine to make sure the owner knew I wanted to speak with her and then asked for a rake to be dropped off at the site so grass shavings could be cleaned up. 3 hours later a “part owner” yet not willing to accept the responsibility of ownership arrive to clean up the grass. We had a conversation about my displeasure with the above and instead of discussing the issues he wanted to tell me some long story about how his Brother is suing him over the business because he and Lois took it from him. No concern for my displeasure was ever shown. No apology was made. No discussion on how they can make it right. The pool and activities remained closed and cancelled for the remainder of the day. We also missed out on taking the children for ice cream because they chose to close the snack bar at 8:30pm rather than the posted 9:00PM closing time. On Saturday at 12 noon, I walk the children to the pool. The lifeguard sends us away to walk back to the RV to find our receipt and show proof we are allowed in the pool. We were never told we needed to provide proof. I find the receipt, take it to the pool and gain entry. I then take a lounge chair and move it a total of 3-4 feet so it would be in the sun and was promptly informed by the Lifeguard that I could not move the lounge chair and if I wanted to be in the sun I would need to bring my own chair or lay on the grass. While at the pool I met a season pass holder who was not camping. I told her that I was waiting to hear from the owner and she pointed her out to me. She was judging golf tournament. I waiting until it was over and approached the owner. I explained I had requested to speak with her and had not heard from her. She cut me off by saying that she was aware that I had complaints and she did not want to talk to me until Monday because she was too busy. I told her this was unacceptable to ignore my request for 4 days. I told her my displeasure about the pool be closed on Friday and she cut me off again by telling me that I am ruining my own vacation by allowing their lack of service to upset me. This is ridiculous! She then cut me off AGAIN and asked if I wanted my money back. I tried to explain that this was not about the money but the fact that we chose to go there because of the amenities advertised on her website and the fact that they were not providing the product represented on the website. Se then put her golf cart in reverse, almost hitting me, turned on the road and left me there. I yelled out that if she wasn’t going to listen to me I’ll just post it on Social Media. Then as she drove away I said that I do want my money back. I return to my camper and started making the children lunch. Then, my Husband enters the camper to inform me that the police are here and the owner is kicking us out of campground. I walked out and asked the police why were we being kicked out because we had done nothing illegal and all I did was complain. She informed us this did not matter and that it was private property and they had to escort us out because she requested. She only gave us 1 hour to vacate which was not enough to properly clean, packed and get everything ready to leave. Because I complained this owner kicked us out. We had to leave our family behind and finish the holiday weekend at home. I was refunded only the days that I was kicked out and not the full weekend she offered in our conversation.

I've written down the name of the campground and will make sure that we never go there either. Who needs attitude when on vacation!

Update: We have solved the broken generator problem by "Backing in" a new one. We cut a heck of a deal at the Hershey PA RV show. We will be taking delivery of a brand new Jayco Greyhawk in December. I will be sending a picture to Beckleys of us in front of our new Motorhome with the caption. "Look what you did! We vote with our dollars"

Take care friends,

Eric

Beware of Albany RV //AKA //RVOne

They offer competitive pricing, will assure you that all will be taking care of to make sure your satisfied. Well the pricing is true, but that's about it.

I wished that I had the foresight to read complaints lodged agaist them from the NYS Attorneys General Office, The NYS consumer fraud division and many reviews listed on goggle

(Read for yourselves)

Once we signed contracts, turned over our trade in, gave our cash down payment.

We were told up to that point that our new/used DP was ready.( down right BS)

Well we go over to where they have it parked and nothing has been done. There's evidence that someone has been sleeping in the unit, cigarette burns in the couch plus other damages; none of agreed items were fixed or repaired. It was so bad, that we were unable to take it, making our 2 1/2 hr. ride wasted.

In addition we had to drive our trade in back the 2 1/2 hrs to our home (fuel cost 75.00). We had reservations at a local CG for the 4th of July weekend/ that' cost us 175.00 in loss CG fees it was non refundable due to holiday weekend

Then we had to wait until the day after the 4th of July for it to be delivered

Then there was the 3 hour wait. was supposed to be delivered at 5pm got it at 9pm in the dark/.on the 5th of July. Found over half of the items to be taken care of, were not. Was told by Albany RV// RV One; "that they would be on it right away". Now it's been weeks nothing has happened. Keep calling and no answer to any of our messages, with exception that the service writer is waiting on authorzation to order parts( from who? he doesn't know)They don't return phone calls.

Now we're forced to contact our attorney and have started legal actions.

Please Pass along to all who would consider buying from Albany RV, who is RV One. One word "Don't" They will be there until they get the money, so if someone insists on buying from there, do not give them the money until you have everything that they agreed to at time of commitment, otherwise you'll never get what was agreed to. And I understand that if you have had issues in the past with then, that you are to contact the New York Attorney General office, if you have not filed a grevience. As I've been told that they are under investigation, and are seeking others who have been defrauded.
