Curious Bill, why don't you recommend the RV version of CoPilot? I use the Garmin 760LMT, Google maps and Truckers Atlas. Trust but Verify.

Parking may be an issue at some of the distillery's.

I would suggest calling your current insurance company asking them what they recommend then shop for the best policy. Is HMO the kind of policy you have a primary physician that has to refer you to specialists.

For me personally, talking up FMCA is not a high priority when we travel as matter of fact I've only discussed FMCA once and that was a few months ago when I performed a completely unscientific poll of 6 people in a campground. None of them saw any benefit except one may join when he needs tires in three or four years...if he remembers. One had the goose egg the previous owner left and didn't know what it was and said he would take it off when he returned home. As I recall, they all were Good Sam members. I drive a lot in Texas, it takes me two days to get out of the state when we do our out of state trips. Texas being the friendly state it is we always wave when meeting another motorhome or trailer, 95% of the motorhome drivers wave back and maybe 5% of the trailer drivers. I can only guess why. Carl, maybe they are trying to increase revenue so they can increase salaries keeping the bottom line zero. It doesn't matter which non profit organization it is, they all seem to have hidden agendas which typically leads to money going in someones pocket. Once I got involved in the real financial part of the American Cancer Society I was appalled. I attended some unbelievable parties and banquets, all first class expenses paid, to discuss how to raise more money. I soon realized each one of these events probably cost over $250,000, I resigned my volunteer position.

Another consideration re making reservations would be if your travels fall on holidays. July 4th and Labor Day can sometimes be difficult to book on short notice. Have a great trip.

I find it interesting, according to Smitty, there is information about this plan on "two different forums" yet there is nothing on the FMCA forum. Apparently there is a serious leak and this should be investigated thoroughly by Congress. Oh, and the perpetrator/perpetrators should be beaten with a wet rope until a full public disclosure is made. If poor Noah reads this forum he'll probably call in sick tomorrow or at least be prepared to keep the phone glued to his ear all day. We went one time in August. 105, no breeze, no shade except in the un-airconditioned sheds with no breeze and people stacked like cord wood. That was the only time it took us less than 4 hours to see all of Canton we wanted to see.

I average 15mpg with or without a head wind. 9 on motorhome and 21 on Jeep. It makes me feel better to say I get 15mpg.

Just as an add on to Brett's information. When you have the MH weighed, have a full tank of fuel, fresh water and loaded with the normal "stuff" (food, drinks, clothes.etc) you will be traveling with. I assume carrying 1000# of animal feed is not typical but if it is, load that also.

We stayed at Las Vegas RV Resort on Nellis last March. As I recall it was around $35/night for a pull thru.

Its the best place to stay for Trades Day because they shuttle you to the grounds. Two key pieces of information: the place is huge and it will hotter than hot in August.

As memory serves me, on our recent trip I talked to 7 people, 2 were young. One had a FMCA goose egg and didn't have a clue what it was. The previous owner left it. None of them saw any value in belonging to FMCA. Everyone of them did belong to Good Sam as I recall.
