  1. Hoping someone familiar with the Naples Florida B) area can recommend a quiet shaded concrete pad under $100/night. We have a toad so we can drive up to 15-20 minutes to good restaurants, shopping.

    We have a small dog.

We do travel with bikes so trails would be dandy too.

    Wed need laundry facilities.

    Wifi would be nice.

We have a dish so need to see the bird.

Much thanks if you can help. Rb

  2. That's a good 'un too! Here's JJ Cale definitely a road song!

Not bad! I've always thought this is a great traveling song too...

Just change the words from "I've trucked all over this land" to "I've been all over this land" or "I've camped all over this land"

  3. They're everywhere and not just in RV's. How about the ones who open their door after eating at McBarfs and gently leave their whole bag of trash on the ground then drive away! These are the same people who can't flush a toilet folks. They are everywhere!

I would assume that the same person that did this would without caring -

Dump at a dump station without hooking up a sewer hose.

Let his animal dump on my site & not pick it up.

Toss trash out of the window while traveling.

Play his 500 watt stereo long after quiet time has started.

Pull out in front of you, within a hundred feet, on a two lane road when you're traveling at sixty mph.

Throw the large rocks surrounding a shore line site out into the lake.

Walk straight through your site repeatedly so he won't have to walk around.

Refuse to keep his animal on a leash.

And many more deeds not done by rational people.

I've witnessed all of the above through the years.

  4. If you do a fair bit of dry camping or boondocking here is a product line for auxiliary heat without firing up your genset:

    http://www.empirecomfort.com/

It can be plumbed into your existing propane tank with low pressure fittings available from your supplier. Be sure to get the model with a thermostat to adjust the output automatically. These are ventless and use room air for combustion but you should crack a window near the unit to draw outside air to compensate. Propane is cheaper than gasoline and there's no disturbing the neighbors when you need heat. Hardware should run under $300USD for a 10K BTU for a space of 300 sq ft. Your camping lifestyle would determine if you'd need one of these units.

  5. Thanks for the advice! Thing is it's happening to several doors all of a sudden - seems odd!

I broke one of our cabinet doors several years ago. Low cabinet, left the door open for a minute to pick up something and stumbled against it, broke it apart completely. I took it to a local cabinet shop (recommended by my daughter) and they reassembled it like new! It looks to me like your damage is more than just moisture. I think the door may not have been glued together properly to begin with. Anyway, I think a cabinet shop will be able to make quick work of it and have it good as new.

  6. My kitchen cupboard doors are self-destructing!

The 1999 Holiday Rambler is in Eugene Oregon, and has some humidity abatement -crystals, kitty litter.

Should I be running my furnace occasionally to dry things out?

How can I shrink the doors to their original dimension?

In a warm oven? In the sunlight?

Should I attempt a repair by gluing? Thanks for any suggestions. rB

  7. When looking to save the info for a restaurant recommended by a fellow member, just go to Google Maps and put in the name of the biz and location.

It will pinpoint the biz and with your GPS plugged into the computer, the location can be saved as a favorite. Choose SEND at the top right of the screen and a menu pops out - choose GPS. It will search for the device and once named by you by brand, will save it in your favorite list. Once you arrive in city just choose it from your favorites list and Bob's your uncle! Happy motoring!

  8. Thanks to all who shared their recommendations. It does seem like a great topic for a blog - you might even need a bowl of lemon water beside your keyboard if it's done right! I'm putting all of your recommendations into my GPS device. You all know how to add favouriites to your Garmin by just using Google maps right? Might be a topic for another discussion. Here's to that magical animal - the hog!

I have a friend who takes us to many interesting BBQ restaurants here in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He says the thing to look for is corrugated roofing used as decor in the interior of the restaurant! We find that a pretty good guide for Texas.

I contend there is great BBQ to be had most everywhere if you don't define BBQ by some very narrow artificial standard. Kansas City, MO has many fine BBQ restaurants. Memphis has already been mentioned. A favorite of ours for many years was Johnny's Smokestack (now Johnny's Pit BBQ) in Rolla, Missouri. We haven't been there in a number of years. The place did burn to the ground several times in the past - another good indicator for a BBQ restaurant!

While checking on Johnny's I came across a web site called Roadfood.com which might be worth exploring if eating your way across country is what you do! They have reviews on 158 BBQ restaurants across the entire country. Their focus is: "The most memorable local eateries along the highways and back roads of America."

  9. Thanks Bill. No shore power. I want to run off the propane main tank. Need to connect a line from there along and under the coach then up inside with a quick connect. There are ceramic propane heaters that need a window cracked for combustion air. Anybody have one? Thx Wayne

Are you hooked p to shore power or not?

If you are then I recommend a good ceramic electric (or 2) heater. If you are not then I suggest that you use the coach heating system.

If you want to move outside these options to a propane powered interior heating source you have to be acutely aware that you must find one approved for interior RV usage and you must have enough outside air being returned to the RV to prevent asphyxiation.
