  1. The route through Pt Jarvis/Milford (US209) is what years ago used to be called by truckers "The Ho Chi Mihn Trail". The Delaware Water Gap area is very pretty, but I am not sure I would count on it in January. At least you have an alternative and can always go the I-84, I-81 route, you can be sure that will be one of the first cleared in the event of snow.
  2. Definitely check out the James Island Park in the Charleston County Park system http://www.ccprc.com/, it is huge (campground is pretty big too) but the park is awesome with LOTS going on all summer. They have a HUGE fenced in dog park with a LAKE! Activities for the kids (and adults too) check out their calendar. If you have not been there at Christmas time the festival on lights is out of this world, but get there before 4 PM otherwise you will be in a LONG line of traffic, the drive through display is amazing and everyone and their cousoin visits it so traffic is tough (but we pulled our Saturn toad and 40' DP through it, so you can too).
  3. We discovered an out of the way place just north of Charlotte, Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort http://lakenormanmotorcoachresort.com/. They are located off I-77 about 10 miles west of exit 33 or 36 (between I-77 and US 321) about 20 miles from Charlotte or Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC). The park is about 3 years old, with 58 sites that overlook a cove on Lake Norman with rates running from $45 - $60 during the season. All sites are 50 Amp. The sites are either pull in or back in, there are no pull throughs. We stayed there when we relocated to Charlotte 2 years ago and absolutely loved the park, the people are friendly and helpful, check it out!
