  1. Hello all,

We will be hitting the road full time with in the next 6 months. I am now starting to look at mail forwarding services in South Dakota. Sioux Falls is closer to VA so am looking there first but have not ruled out going over to Rapid City. Can you all comment on "Dakota Post and My Best Address"? Both are located in Sioux Falls. Most post I have read cover the ones located in Rapid City so info on those two would be appreciated.

  2. Howdy all. I have read several threads but am still conflicted. My current extended warranty is expiring. I looked into replacing it and the cost is now $12K for 3 yrs/30K miles. That is about triple what I paid 4 yrs ago when I bout the coach. I have used the policy over the last 4 years but probably did not break even between original cost and what my share of the bills added up to. The coach has 62,300 miles on her. I will be retiring in the next 2 yrs and will hit the road full time. I know if one of the major systems dies like engine, transmission, AC, or Jacks the cost could be pretty high for repairs. With that said I feel the odds for that are not that great. I could be wrong though. Please provide what you all think or have done.

    Thanks:unsure:

  3. Howdy All,

The better half and I are looking down the barrel of retirement in the next year or two. We are looking at the Waco, TX area as a possibility. We are currently in Northern VA and are tired of the cold and paying taxes on everything. So I hope some of you out there may have some close to first hand info on the Waco, TX area. I know it's not too far from Ft Hood. Can any one tell me or recommend any of the small surrounding communities. We want to look at getting a small house with enough room for the RV and use it for our base when we hit the road semi-full time. Also can anyone tell me if there are any oriental markets in or around Waco.

  4. Howdy All. Just finished the replacement of our Sharp microwave. It had intermittent difficulties working and all the metal trim fell off. Replaced it with a Whirlpool microwave. The one thing I found out during this evolution was that the Sharp's door actually did not go from side to side. It actually had a fixed section on the left side of about 2 inches. That enabled the door to open with out hitting the left side cabinet panel. All the new ones I looked at in Lowes and HD and online all had full width doors. So I had to extend the bracing outward about 2 or 3 inches. Also the standard rear mounting panel is extremely flimsy. I still need to install the vent from the back to the RV skin. I can do that from the outside. Have to extend that about the same as the bracing. I added a stiffener angle behind it. I'm pretty comfortable with it staying in place as we go down the road the way I have it braced but definitely a lesson learned about trying to look a little harder to find a better match for what is being replaced. I'll post a couple pics tomorrow

  5. Update:

Called Winnebago. They informed me there is a 3' wide piece of aluminum plate in the ceiling that the mounting angle bracket in the ceiling is attached to. So probably the best solution is to make a new metal angle bracket that will extend back to where the original is mounted to the ceiling and also extends out the extra 2 or so inches I need due to the mounting difference in the two units. :)

    I'll post some pictures later.

  6. Howdy All. I started replacing my old Sharp Microwave yesterday. It came out with out much difficulty. The replacement microwave is almost exact in size. The snag I hit is that the door is a full side to side door. The Sharp door stopped a couple inches from the left side. So the front of the microwave has to stick out about 2 inches so the door can open. That makes the top mounting bolts where you attach the mounting plate about 2.5 inches too far forward of where the mounting plate it attaches to is secured to the roof. I have checked every diagram I can find and don't see any special plate that the ceiling bracket is screwed into. Does anyone know if I can move that ceiling plate and have the same fastening strength or if that will weaken the mounting. :(

  7. Thanks all for the great possible solutions. I did scrub it and cleaned of all the grime. It appears that the soft touch coating is what has worn off. It is right at the spot that would be the logical place for your hand as you enter or exit the coach. I tried soap and water and spray cleaners. Did not work much. I used Soft Scup with bleach and that made a good dent. Then I use WD40 and that cleaned the grime and stickiness off in seconds. I let it air dry, used the soft scrub again and put it back in the coach. You can still feel the slight line of separation where the worn area starts and the soft touch ends but there is no more discoloration. I'll see how long that lasts.:)

  8. Howdy All,

I'm replacing my Norcold with a 22 cu ft residential Whirlpool Side By Side refrigerator. I currently have a 2000 watt pure sine inverter that runs parts of my coach when not connected to shore or generator. Should I consider adding a second pure sine inverter (600 watt or so) just for the fridge? Don't boondock but do spend the night occasionally at rest stops during our trips. If it is recommended what is a recommended inverter?

  9. Howdy All,

We are planning a trip up to Elkhart to look around for new Captains Chairs and maybe a new recliner type couch for our 06 Winnebago Tour. Previous owners were a little rough on the furniture. I previously bought a new couch from http://shop4seats.com/ and are very pleased with the quality and price but can't try out the chairs from an on-line source. With that in mind we are combining a one week jaunt to get away with a trip to Elkhart. I have read that some places there have "Take-Out" furniture from new coaches. Can any one provide some recommendations of where to look there?

  10. I replaced the two old TVs in my Monaco Monarch with Flat Panel. Did not do any real cabinet mods just some basic trim work. Not much of a carpenter so did not try to reduce the size of the box up front. Used plywood in the back and 1 by 10s up front. Added security straps on each. Local RV shop want $500 for just the front one.
