  1. Check for zoning rules. Seems like every place has some. Also check with the local government (Township) as they may have regulations. Where I live (no covenants) we can keep the RV on our property and the only rule is that it must be on an improved surface (Gravel, concrete or blacktop). I have a concrete pad in the back yard for it.

A friend has 10 acres in Northern Wisconsin with a well and septic. They can have the RV on the land as long as it is occupied and for no longer than 6 months since there isn't a house there.

Actually this type windshield gasket does NOT have adhesive holding the glass in place. I usually use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning both the grove and the strip then push back into place. If you want to use an adhesive, black or clear silicone rtv sealant over the strip, not in  it, works pretty well. Like the old Brylcreme advertisement, "just a little dab will do ya!", I usually will use a real small bead then smooth it with a finger tip.

Thank You! I'll clean it with alcohol the next time I see it popping up. It's always in the same area. Cleaning makes sense. I'll start there first before I try silicone.

Its on the right side glass and we had that replaced over a year ago. Installer said gasket was like new. He felt glass had been replaced/redone in the last few years.

    Thanks again.

  3. We have an area on the top windshield gasket that starts "popping" up. It is like a flap that can be work up and out to facilitate glass replacement.
I clean the gasket and work it back in. I has a raised ridge on the edge that fits into a matching groove to hold it in place.

Should I clean it and put some adhesive on it top keep in place? If so what would you use?

Seems to stay in place for quite a while and then starts popping back up. Almost like its not seating correctly.

  4. I was in a rest area (Plaza on I80) in Indiana a couple of years ago doing a walk around before we continued on. An Indiana State Trooper (really nice guy btw) Walked over and asked if we had a supplemental system. I showed him the Brake Buddy and break away switch. He thanked me and we chatted a bit. He told me he has written people (ticket) up for no braking system. No brake may be legal where you live, but you will get a ticket if it is in a state where it is required.

I would not tow without a system.

  5. I had the Amish (Dutch Aire brand) built cooling unit installed in mine since with lots of measuring and research it would have been a major modification on my coach. Had to move plumbing and possibly heating duct work. It has exceeded my expectations. We now run the Norcold at a 4 or 5 setting all the time. Freezer is at -1 to -6 and refrigerator is 34/35 degrees.

I did opt to have the work done by JC Refrigeration in Shipshewana Indiana. Same gentleman owns JC and Dutch Aire.

  6. I spent a lot of time trying to decide between them. Both are good and reviews for them are good.  I went with the Steer Safe because I liked the simplicity of it as well as the fact it worked at each wheel and kingpin rather than on the steering linkage.

    Just my preference.

"We just got our motorhome and have heard about steer control and now "steer safe".  Can you tell me where you purchased this? THANKS,"

I went to the Steer Safe website (http://www.steersafe.com/) to read up on them. I called them direct to ask a couple of questions and ordered over the phone. 1-800-845-5504

  8. Ordered a Steer Safe last week Tuesday, Arrived on Friday and installed the Steer Safe on our Monaco Sunday. Went for a test drive on an East/West section of the interstate. There was a 15 - 25 MPH Northwest crosswind. It made a major difference. Went through areas with trees and into open areas. Could hear the wind but barely felt it! Not like a trip we took to Indiana a week and a half ago. Crosswinds and trucks kept me busy.
I should have put it on when we bought the coach a year and a half ago.
I will never have a coach without it and highly recommend the Steer Safe!

  9. BennieH, I feel your pain! The belt on the genset looks worse than it is. I removed the water pump pulley (4, 10mm bolts) removed the pulley from the pump with the belt, installed the new belt on the crank, then water pump pulley started the bolts by hand (had to use a punch to locate the bolt holes) and walked the pulley down evenly cross staggering the bolts as it tightened with a ratchet 9just to make sure I was pulling it down evenly). Rather than they way in the video of forcing the belt up over the pulleys.

if you need any other help just ask on here. I just did a full Generator service on my 7500 series Onan a few weeks ago. Still fresh in my mind.

Thanks for the tips on the belt. Once the genset is done then I'll do a oil & filer change on the Cummins. I also have a set of fuel filters so I may just get them right away. Starting to get the itch to go with all of the mild weather we've been having.

Lots of projects as well. Have to put the baseplate on the Edge along with the tow wiring. (Wifes "new" car. 2007 with 70,000 miles and it is immaculate!) Ford says we can flat tow it and so we will!

  10. This weekend with good weather I finally switched to Final Charge Global OAT. 3 flushes, 2 with tap water and last one with distilled water. Changed the water filter to a non-SCA Fleetguard one. Took about 6 hours with interruptions. Also did the T-Stat< inspected all hoses and connections. Next is the genset. Got a belt, fuel filter, air filter and Tstat right away.

Now I can wait 7 years before I need to worry about it, I hope.

Wanted to do it last year, but just tested the antifreeze and added what was needed to get through the year.

  11. Starting to think about replacing the carpeting and possibly the tile in the Camelot. I did do our Class C a few years ago got rid of the carpet and installed a snap together floating vinyl floor. Worked pretty well, but the cold weather we get. did open a few of the gaps.

What have you all found that looks good, holds up and works the best for the cold we get.

Plan to tackle next year once I am retired.

  12. Since my last post, our girl Annie finally had her last RV trip Sept 2015 as her health was failing and that time all pet owners hate arrived.

We now have 2 older cats (both 8yrs) 1 male & 1 female that we adopted (stopped to drop off excess food/etc at the local shelter - you all know how well that turns out!)

They both made the trip to Florida last October/November and had pretty well settled into the whole travel thing at the end of the 2 weeks.

For all you pet lovers, we learned that typically older cats & dogs are the hardest to place. Everyone wants kittens and puppies.

  13. No HOA's for me. Where I live it is only subject to the village and state laws. The only rule I have to deal with is that everything must be parked on a paved surface. (same for boats, trailers, whatever). So I have a concrete pad (the rules allow gravel, concrete of blacktop, etc. anything but grass or dirt) in the back yard for the winter and leave the coach in the driveway all camping season.

To me an HOA is simply for a small group of people to control all the others.

  14. Been very fortunate that I can do the majority of what needs to be done. Servicing the chassis, generator, engine and the bulk of the "house" repairs are not hard for me.

If needed, for coach/system issues there is a good RV dealer nearby who will do that work and I have had them do things in the past when time was an issue. They however don't deal in the the diesel market and won't do engine or chassis work. For that, there is a Cummins coach care as well as a excellent independent shop within a half an hours drive form home.

Like GliderCoach, If retirement wasn't 12 months away, I could see starting a mobile RV service.

By the way, it seems that a lot of the mobile folks get fairly high marks and seem to be . I wonder if a lot of them got tired of the big dealer "get it out the door" attitude and went out on their own so they could it right?
