  1. Smithy, Can you comment on what Dons2346 said one page back:

Another example of the executive board using bad judgement is the giving of $250,000 to the owner of rVillage, a facebook wanna be. The so called details of the gift is that FMCA will supposedly receive 5% interest on the money OR the owner has the option to issue FMCA stock in the company which is supposed to happen in 2019. This info was found out when I requested a copy of the current annual audit. It had to be covered there to justify the $250,000. You might think this is great in that we will get something however our investments are regulated by our Policy & Procedures. Those tell the organization what investments can be invested in. One that we cannot invest in is private stock. rVillage is not listed on any stock exchange. During the last GB meeting I questioned the then treasurer about the 5% interest and had we received it yet. The treasurer informed the entire GB that the "money is gone". Not one member of the GB stood up and raised any issue with it.

Did this indeed happen and how did it happen? Is there that little oversight that someone can authorize an expenditure of this size that is in total violation of the charter and no one caught it?

His CW stores are terrible and mismanaged.

He was quoted in an article not to long ago about how he doesn't like RV people.

Thats enough for me to stay away from his businesses.

I suppose it would be hard to get to know any RV people if you only go from the back seat of you limo in order to climb into your private jet...

  3. When we bought our coach it had 19,000 miles on it. For the next 12,000 miles  we averaged 5,2 mpg. while driving 65-68 mph. Then installed the ugli-fix that keeps the EGR from opening and set out on our last trip to the Pacific Northwest. As someone above mentioned the speed limit in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Calif. limit Trucks and RVs to mostly 55-60. For that 2700 mile trip we averaged 5.9 mpg. So I realize part of that is from slowing down, but I also felt the Ugli-fix added to our mileage, especially since the final 3 fill-ups yielded 6.2 mpg. As many people know the achilles heel for a Cummins engine is their EGR, so by preventing it from opening I can't imagine that once the entire system cleans itself out that I will stay closer to the 6.0 to 6.3 range. We certainly did not buy a Class A for the mpg's as we feel that sleeping in the same bed, and taking everything we may (or think we may need) is worth it. Just for fun, I usually check local hotel rates near the RV Parks we stay and must say that at the end of each trip after comparing what we paid out vs. staying in Hotels and buying every meal out it is pretty much a wash.

They really are one in the same.  What business would FMC have if not for FMCA?

No matter.  As I said above, this is not just a matter of allowing towable to join but a complete change to the FMCA organization.  This would be a change from an organization for the sharing of information for and about motorized RV owners to just another group that will be homogenized to RV's of all types.  This leaves me reading about popups and travel trailers just the same as the other organizations already do.  The rallies would just be Good Sam rallies using a different moniker and I think that's just sad.

    Well said BillA

I'm sorry but FMCA is just a business.  If the folks running the business are not doing the job then you fire them and hire people who can do the job.  It's not the job of the folks who represent the business for free as they travel around the Country to run the business.  Someone up there is getting paid to run the business.  It sounds like they are failing to keep up with the needs of the consumer.  As with an business, it either needs to fix the problem or go away.  I am sure the owners of this business have decided it's best to switch than fight (evolve) and will end up as just another humongous RV group like Good Sam or Escapee.  This might be a good business move as they will have access to the 80% of RV owners that do not own a motorhome.  The new business will no longer carry Family in the name and it won't say Motor Coach so FMCA will mean nothing more than FMCA.

This is not our club as many have repeated again and again.  It's a business and someone needs to start running it like one.

I agree with Bill. Many companies have chosen to go this route because it is easier. It is so much easier to look outside for ways to grow and earn more money rather then look within and identify who is not working up to potential and make changes in order to stay lean and mean. I have felt since I joined that FMCA is certainly not at the top of their game or anywhere near. Yes, they have a great tire program. But shortly after I joined I called and asked why they don't have a battery program. Their answer "We're working on it" I have asked  why they don't have an online trip programmer similar to Good Sam; their answer..."we're working on it" C'mon guys...even AAA admits they don't do even 10% of the trip tics they did 10 years ago...everything is online and allows you to customize depending on your needs...and that is one of the reasons AAA membership is declining.  My screen name suddenly got deleted along with all my posts. I called and after some searching they "found it" but their IT guy couldn't restore it because in his words "their system was not capable of saving my screen name or join date"... so I was given a "new" screen name and a new join date. The FMCA website takes the longest of any website that I normally look at on a daily basis to load.  On a personal level I have mentioned belonging to FMCA many times in conversation with other motorized RV owners and have yet met one who was/is an FMCA member. Most had heard but said the only benefit they new of was the tire deal.  I think FMCA could become the premier group to belong to if they would just abide by their original mission and make the necessary changes to become the best. Just my opinion...but I still think the "Verizon deal" would be alive today except that suddenly Verizon realized that the current membeship numbers they were given by FMCA was about to change in a huge way and that was not what they had bargained for.

    Excellent question.

I  e-mailed FMCA's Publishing Director and got this reply:

    Hi, Brett,

The ballot will appear in the September, October, and November issues, with a deadline for returning by mail of November 30, 2017. I’m guessing more communication will take place with members, but I’m not sure what the plan is. Chris’ first day back from Indy was today so we haven’t met.

    Thanks Brett.

Between Katy and Richmond is the Premier Boat & RV Storage facility that has enclosed storage buildings --> http://premierstoragetx.com/  Two years ago when I was looking for a spot for my motorhome Premier Storage has no spots available.  As such, I currently store my motorhome at the new Grand Parkway Boat and RV Storage which is also between Richmond and Katy --> http://grandparkwayboatandrvstorage.com/    I pay $195 per month for a covered, 50 foot long space, which includes 110 volt power to keep batteries charged, operate the refrigerator, etc.  The folks at Grand Parkway Boat and RV Storage are very accommodating.

There is a new storage facility under construction a bit west of Rosenberg named Luxury Boat & RV Storage that will have 50 foot long enclosed storage spaces --> https://www.luxboatrvstorage.com/   This new storage facility should be open very soon.  When I called them a couple of weeks ago, the cost for a 50 foot space will be $295 per month which is a bit steep.  This new storage facility will have a wash pad and dump station which Grand Parkway and Premier Storage don't have.  Hence their higher cost is probably partly due to providing these services.

Since the covered 50 foot spots at Grand Parkway Boat and RV Storage keeps my 39 foot motorhome in the shade all day, every day, I have little incentive to move to more expensive, a fully enclosed storage location.  Having said that, there are a few 45 foot motorhomes at the Grand Parkway facility that I've seen get some sun exposure on the south ends of those motorhomes during winter months (all of the storage spots are oriented north-south).   If I ever need a dump station near my home, for $5 I can use the one at the Love's Truck Stop at the I-10/Pederson Road interchange a couple of miles west of Katy (Pederson Road is the exit for Camping World, Holiday World and Ron Hoover RV Dealerships/Stores).  The street in front of my home is a great wash pad early on a Saturday morning.

    Hope this helps!

I pay $320 per month for the same thing in Phoenix. And that is with a 12 month contract!
