We are in Florida and have to set up our new Focus as our Toad. I would like to buy everything off the internet to save a ton on the cost....however......where do you get it all installed? I use Blue Ox equipment and we tried to have the Blue Ox authorized dealer install our own purchased equipment before with very poor results. Basically they tell you...You buy it from us and we will install it or the install price goes through the roof. Does anyone know of a reputable shop that does this type of work in the Tampa/Orlando area? I don't mind paying for an honest days work but to have to pay someone 40 to 60% mark-up on the equipment and then the install is tough to swallow...........Happy New Year and safe travels !!!!!

When we had Blue Ox fabricate a baseplate for prior toad, they included a nice window sign "car in tow.". We always made sure to put that sign in the rear window of our toad (which was not a tinted window). FYI - our sign is held in place by wedging it top & bottom on inside of rear window moldings. But new toad (Jeep GC) first trip towing back from install Air Force One system on MH & toad, DW following in our second vehicle found the tinted windows on the Jeep make it impossible for a vehicle behind you to 'see' or 'be able to read' the"car in tow" sign until they are less than 1 car length behind the toad. We would like it visible at a greater distance for safety. ( Otherwise, just looks to another driver following rig on hwy that a Jeep is tail gating the MH ?) So, questions we have: 1 ). Do you use a "car in tow" sign in you'd toads? Is it required by law? 2 ). Open to ideas how to make "car in tow" sign more visible when toad window is tinted? Thanks again for your help!

I was interested in buying a 2013 Hyundai Veloster (Manual Transmission) to flat tow behind our class A motorhome. The FMCA Dinghy Towing 2013 Guide shows this vehicle as flat-towable with no restrictions on the manual transmission. I wrote to Hyundai USA and received the following reply. We won't be buying a Hyundai to tow since they won't warranty any damage from flat-towing this vehicle. Blue Ox is making base plates for this car. From: Hyundai Customer Connect Center <ConsumerAffairs@hmausa.com> To: xxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2013 2:49 PM Subject: RE: Hyundai USA - Warranty Coverage (CASE 5909901) (#2714-372023005-2658) Dear Gerry Dunn: Thank you For contacting Hyundai Motor America. We thank you for your interest in our 2013 Veloster and we appreciate the opportunity to advise of the proper way to tow a 2013 Manual Transmission Veloster. It is acceptable to tow the vehicle with the rear wheels on the ground (without dollies) and the front wheels off the ground. If any of the loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged or the vehicle is being towed with the front wheels on the ground, use a towing dolly under the front wheels. When being towed by a commercial tow truck and wheel dollies are not used, the front of the vehicle should always be lifted, not the rear. The use of wheel dollies or flatbed is recommended. Please be advised that we encourage you to speak with the service department of your local Hyundai Dealership for more helpful information. If you have any additional questions or concerns that we can assist you with, Please reach out to us again at any time. I purchased a 2014 Grand Cherokee to replace an older Liberty/dinghy with a manual transfer case. After having Camping World install a 2nd vehicle package on the GC I tried to prepare it to be towed IAW the User Guide (page 116). The instructions (I condense them for space) were to select "run" without starting the engine and to shift the transmission to Neutral before depressing the transfer case Neutral button. I could not move the transmission selector handle out of Park. A quick trip to a nearby Jeep dealership and having a service tech follow the instructions produced the same non-result -- which prompted a call and a one hour trip to the selling dealership. To cut to the bottom line, the instructions in the User Guide are WRONG and contain inaccurate information. (Perhaps the instructions are a carryover from the 2013 that no longer apply to the 2014.) One must start the engine and shift to Neutral before depressing the transfer case button. The message the instructions indicate will be displayed on the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), won't. When Neutral is displayed in the top, left area of the EVIC, then turn off the engine. The transmission automatically shifts to Park and frees up the steering wheel to tow the vehicle. I will attempt to contact Chrysler/Jeep to inform them of the faulty instructions. If I can't reach the right person at Jeep, I created a WORD document that provides my version of the instruction that can be clipped and taped over the instructions in the User Guide.
