Gatlinburg to Wilmington, NC

I will be traveling from Gatlinburg, TN to Wilmington, NC in mid October, driving a 40 foot DP, towing a car. Looks like I could either take a south route through Columbia, or a north route through Winston-Salem. Time is not a concern. I may stop over at a midway RV park to break up the trip. Any comments on which route might be better for motor home travel, as well as midway RV park recommendations will be much appreciated.

As a matter of personal preference, I'd take the southern route. Less traffic than what you'd encounter along I-40. Can't comment on an RV park - - last time we were down that way I think we did the Wal-Mart thing.
