angler3041 Report post Posted April 18, 2011 Anyone have any recommendations for campgrounds in Charleston, S.C., in August? We have a 36-foot motorhome. Thanks, in advance
2ndgenfulltimer Report post Posted April 18, 2011 We spent a week at Oak Plantation Campground - http://www.oakplantationcampground.com/ - back in 2008. They offer full hookup sites for under $40 a night and will accommodate any size rig. They also offer a 10% Good Sam discount. It is easy to find and get in & out of as well as being convenient to Charleston. I would not hesitate to stay there again or to recommend it to you! The other choice in the area is James Island County park - http://www.ccprc.com/index.aspx?NID=909 - they did not have space available for our rig ( 40 footer ) when we visited, but they get really good reviews on http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ which is a site we use all the time for finding RV parks! LivingLikeEachDayIsMyLast Report post Posted April 18, 2011 The wife & I like the KOA right across the Cooper River bridge in Mt.Pleasant. A ten minute drive to the old slave mart located in downtown Charleston. Might as well go have a look at the salvaged Hunley sub while you're in Charleston. You won't run out of things to do in Charleston.Have a great camping day! Guest Wayne77590 Report post Posted April 20, 2011 We stayed at James Island County Park with our 40' DP and Saturn TOAD. It was a pull through site right across from the sidewalk to the office. James Island is great. There is a water park that will be open that time of the year. If you have pets, then just down the road is a fenced in doggy park that is at least 2 football fields long and wide, maybe more, with beach water access to the pond for the dogs. Miya had a wonderful time in there. It is just a short drive to other attractions, and don't forget to see the Angel Oak tree (google it) Happy trails. DrDaveMA Report post Posted June 3, 2011 Definitely check out the James Island Park in the Charleston County Park system http://www.ccprc.com/, it is huge (campground is pretty big too) but the park is awesome with LOTS going on all summer. They have a HUGE fenced in dog park with a LAKE! Activities for the kids (and adults too) check out their calendar. If you have not been there at Christmas time the festival on lights is out of this world, but get there before 4 PM otherwise you will be in a LONG line of traffic, the drive through display is amazing and everyone and their cousoin visits it so traffic is tough (but we pulled our Saturn toad and 40' DP through it, so you can too).
