Electricity Availability In Madison And Toads

Question

The registration materials we have say the electric power will not be turned on until Tuesday morning. Our materials have us arriving at Lake Farm park, and parking there, on Monday afternoon. Will we need to be prepared to run our generators until 9AM on Tuesday morning, or is that only for those being directed to the convention grounds? Also, will there be someplace at Lake Farm to pull to the side and unhook the toad, or should we be doing that before we get there? The directions ask that this be done before we get to the parking area but make no mention as to where this might be accomplished.

When the electric comes on depends entirely on the people running the generators. I've had electricity the day we parked (like you, the afternoon before electric was scheduled). We've also encountered people who switch on the electric just about on schedule. So yes, you should be prepared to use the generator until the electric comes on.

Where you disconnect the toad is also hard to say. I've been to conventions where this was handled off site where we checked in to be escorted to the parking area. I've seen it handled efficiently on the grounds as caravan of motor homes arrived. I've also seen very disorganized parking committees for whom toads were a real challenge. I would plan to stop somewhere about 15 or 20 miles away to unhook and drive the remainder of the distance so you can pull onto the grounds and be directed right to your parking spot. If you do this, your parking experience will be greatly enhanced. I don't know the area well enough to recommend a location for this. If you don't get a response from someone local, check walmart.com to see where the nearest Wal-Mart store is located. You could also check Pilot/Flying J or others for truck stops. Picking a spot farther from the convention will keep you out of the crowd.

Thanks for the response Tom. I am local, sort of (lived in the area for 35 years). I know where we can disconnect off site, wanted to know if it was necessary or if they'd provide a place right there. Based on this, I think we'll plan on pulling into one of the truck stops on our way in. Being somewhat familiar with the park too, I was having a hard time imagining where that place might be. It's a narrow country road into where we'll be parked.

See ya'll there. :)

If it is like the past, generators will be started at 9:00 am on the first day of electric. We like you to arrive without your toad hooked up but if that's not possible we will let you unhook in the area. Sometimes we can park you before you unhook but please don't count on that. Looking forward to seeing you and many others. I'm the one in the red hat with the crew parking family electric.

Some of the folks will be using Dejope to unhook the toads before moving west to the Alliant grounds.

My information is that 10 minutes and 7 miles. You will note that Dejope is near the Interstate system.
