Induction Cook Top

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about converting my cooktop to a induction cook top.

Has anyone ever done that?

I searched the forum but didn't see any comments on doing that.

I've been using a portable induction cook top for over 3 years now with good sucess. It draws 1/2 the current and boils water in half the time. You need steel pans.

I don't think I would want to replace a gas cook top with induction but it does make a good add-on using a portable unit as described above. You just don't have the instant heat control (without lifting the pan) that you do with gas. It also limits you to only cooking while on shore power or generator as the power consumed will be too much for most inverter/battery banks even with a good solar array.

We added two Fagor induction cooktops in the space occupied by the propane stove. This is terrific! However, you will have to find cookware that reponds to a magnet. So, tke a magnet withyou when shopping as the induction units will nto function with anything else, including aluminum.

Camping World recently had a sale on the Fagors and they were about $89.95 each at the time.
