dinkie07 Report post Posted April 30, 2012 My coach has 24K miles on a 8.1 Vortec engine. Runs excellent, and the transmission works great too. Is it time to do the transmission oil change at this point of my coach. This will be the first oil change. What do you recommend. Thanks for the advice. Dinkie . wolfe10 Report post Posted April 30, 2012 Dinkie, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. First oil change at 24,000 miles??? GM or Allison transmission- both were mated to the 8.1. If you have an Allison transmission here is a link to Allison's transmission recommended service intervals: http://www.allisontr...changeinterval/ Brett
OkieDave Report post Posted April 30, 2012 You didn't say which transmission you have. I have a 8.1 Vortec on a Workhorse chasses with a 4 speed GM transmission. Fluid change is recommended at 50K miles. If you have an Allison, then follow Brett's link.
pjibs Report post Posted September 12, 2012 I'm new and probably going about this wrong, but ... I just purchased a 2002 Trek; no manuals. I'd like to service the transmission first. Can anyone tell me what model Allison the 2002 featured, and what would be my best choice of filter, gasket, and oil? Thanks - pjibs
wolfe10 Report post Posted September 12, 2012 pjibs, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Safest answer is to crawl under and copy the Allison model and serial number off the transmission plate. Then give Allison a call: 800 252 5283.
