Pxr177 Report post Posted July 17, 2012 I will be towing my 2001 Pontiac Sunfire in the fall. I need a baseplate. I see on the net that blue OX has a specific baseplate for my model car. So, do I need a customized baseplate or can a regular plate be fitted. Is this a technically difficult job, or just a lot of careful work. If I need a mechanic, do I need an RV specialist or just a good body man? Any suggestions are appreciated. Paul Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rossboyer Report post Posted July 17, 2012 Base plates are custom for your specific vehicle to be towed. I have never worked with Blue Ox equipment, but I have done 5 Roadmasters. The average was about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to install the baseplates. You will find that it takes much longer to wire the towed if you intend to use the towed's lights. One took me 2 1/2 days. The others were about 6 hours. Roadmaster has all the diodes and other parts needed to wire your own. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
lmsooter Report post Posted July 18, 2012 I am not familiar with Blue Ox equipment but I installed Roadmaster baseplates on my 2005 Jeep Liberty. It is not particularly difficult - just read and follow the instructions and take your time with the install. I note that the Roadmaster website lists baseplates for the 2001 Pontiac Sunfire but specifies "Not GT". Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
