obedb Report post Posted January 17, 2015 A friend is starting the search for a used DP. He has been a truck mechanic all of his adult life and still owns a public truck garage. He noticed a nearby 98 Beaver low miles. They were once a sought after coach, but didn't the company start to have $$$ problems? Is that year worth a look for him? wolfe10 Report post Posted January 17, 2015 Yes, worth looking at. But, like most companies, Beavers of that vintage ranged from mid-line to high line depending on what model. Safari owned them during that time. As with any coach that age, how it was maintained will have as much to do with what it is worth as its value for what make and model it is. obedb Report post Posted January 17, 2015 Thanks Brett. Both he and his son are skilled mechanics. They worked on my last two trucks. I sent him the link you supplied.
Koliver Report post Posted February 13, 2015 Well worth a look. We recently sold our 98 Contessa. Had it 3 years, fixed a few things, but moved up only to get a lot more room in a 44' coach with 3 big slides. Had a hard time finding what we wanted, since anything else had to measure up to the high standards set by the Beaver. Don't worry too much about mileage. The engines used in the 98 beavers were all very good engines. They should go 500,000 miles without a major rebuild, so what will go far sooner is the carpeting, simple to remove, the curtains and blinds, worth updating, and the shine, also simple to restore.
