rstrick2 Report post Posted September 21, 2015 Windshield popping out of rubber Gasket: We bought the 2004 Damon Motorhome new and have had many problems with water leaking around the windshield rubber gasket. in the last year we have had the windshield pop out of the rubber gasket causing large amounts of water to come in during rain storms. We sealed the windshield the best we could to keep out the rain but the glass was coming out further and further. We took it to a dealer and they removed the windshields and cleaned the rubber gasket. after a couple of days use the windshield popped out again on the top. The dealer then decided the coach needed a new rubber gasket. The dealer then went replaced the gasket and re-installed the windshields. After a week of use the top of the glass was popped out of the new rubber gasket. The dealer does not know what to do know. the Damon company now Thor Motor Coach, PO Box 1486 Elkhart, Indiana 46515 should be making a recall to fix this problem. it is happening on many of the older Damon models from 2002 - 2009, I can't get anyone to be concerned about this. manholt Report post Posted September 21, 2015 Where are you? Either the Windshield needs to be reshaped to fit coach or they put the wrong adhesive on. RV's move, therefore everything needs to flex with the coach. Carl
kaypsmith Report post Posted September 22, 2015 RSTICK2, welcome to the forum.Does your coach have 3 point leveling? Some with 3 point have had this problem due to the excessive flexing caused by the one leveler being placed in the middle on the front. If, this is the problem, you can use leveling blocks under the front wheels to help relieve some of the stress caused by leveling. I don't think that rubber gaskets are normally glued in. Hope Thor will step up and help, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't. Good luck, Kay
manholt Report post Posted September 23, 2015 Kay. If nothing is glued, what's to prevent window & gasket from just falling out when you stop or hit a bump? Carl
kaypsmith Report post Posted September 23, 2015 Carl, the rubber gasket is designed to stay in place with a locking strip which is inserted into the gasket after the windshield has been fitted into the gasket. Here is a youtube link that shows the whole process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yuRkAuxdG0 Some modifications to the front cap by an experienced fiberglass repairer might be in order, most RV body shops are capable of this type repair. . The newer way of installing a windshield does use windshield adhesive, but the cap is designed for this type installation.
