bgreen Report post Posted August 18, 2016 I have a King-Dome in motion system 9762-LP on an 08 motorhome. I brought the coach home to prepare for a weekend trip. Satellite worked fine. I traveled 150 miles south and could not get it locked on. I did all the troubleshooting and re calibration. I contacted King-Dome Monday looking for help and the response they provided was EchoStar made signal format change and my dish was going to experience problems where I would be fighting to get locked on quite often. I have Directv. I can not find anything on this and not sure if the person I spoke to is telling me accurate info. Has anyone had similar problem or aware of such a change? blakeloke Report post Posted August 18, 2016 Bgreen, Probably better experts on this forum than I with respect to your question but here is what we were told when we upgraded ....... In February we upgraded our satellite and entertainment system. Not because we were having issues with Direct TV or locking onto a satellite but because the old system was so complex, both TVs were tube style and the rear one was not working (some other annoyances also). Plus, our old system did not receive HD signals. Fast forward when we met with the technician (he specializes in RV installations) he told us that sometime this year Direct TV was going to change their format and our old system would have trouble working if at all. So, we opted for the Wineguard Trav'ler, HD flatscreen TVs, and new over the air antenna to replace the crank up. We're totally happy with the entire set-up and have only had one issue with the Trav'ler. It got stuck when trying to stow in the down position. Simple call to the installer and he sent me a recalibration procedure that worked fine. I'm not sure what changes Direct TV did but you may need a new receiver. Give Sats2Go (Houston, TX.) they may be able to explain a little better or help you with your existing problem. Blake
BillAdams Report post Posted August 18, 2016 DirecTV did not make any changes that would effect the ability of your dome to find the DirecTV satellite. However, it sounds like KD is trying to say that the changes Dish made to their satellite broadcast (and they did!) is effecting the antennas ability to move from one satellite to another. Resetting the antenna over and over likely allows the antenna to finally shed the Dish satellite and move to the correct DirecTV satellite. Glad to hear that you are now locked onto the correct satellite but don't be surprised if you have ongoing issues with the older domes. DirecTV and Dish will continue to move their technology forward and since neither DirecTV nor Dish built RV antennas all we can hope for is that our after market RV hardware will work. tilldee Report post Posted September 7, 2016 We do not currently have satellite TV on our MH, but friends of ours do. They have a Winegard, with Dish I believe. Their issue is that each time they move, they have to call and reset the zipcode they are in. They have been told by Dish they are not allowed to change zipcodes often like they have been doing. Crazy, I know since it's on a MH. Just want to know what all the full timers with satellite do when they change locations. New to how this all works. kaypsmith Report post Posted September 7, 2016 I use Directv and never call and tell them anything about zipcode. I know that I can't get local programming when more than 100 or so miles from my home location. I sometimes do a reset of the receiver to the local zipcode just to be able to read the coordinates for dish adjustment. I do not subscribe to relocation so I know that calling will do no good. I do use an antenna for local broadcast when outside my home area.

kaypsmith Report post Posted September 7, 2016 No, not recycling the receiver, actually going through the setup of the receiver, this is only when and if i can't find a good signal. I use an "Answer" dish which I do have to set the elevation on, then it will automatically search the azimuth. When it fails to find a signal, I go through setup for the zipcode that I am currently in to get the correct elevation for the area, for instance, I live in central Alabama, the elevation is 48 degrees, when in Northeast Florida, correct elevation is 45 degrees. Correct term probably should have been reprogrammed the receiver.
BillAdams Report post Posted September 7, 2016 TILLDEE, you are getting a reply that does not address your question. Everyone has to call DirecTV or Dish if you move too far from home so you will be able to receive the Network programming in the area where you are parked. You can never get your home Networks when you are too far from home so if you don't call you will not get any Network programming at all. As far as getting this accomplished, Dish is much easier to work with than DirecTV but both will allow you to do so. It has nothing at all to do with changing the zip code in your receiver. All that does is change the information the receiver puts out showing the proper Azimuth, Elevation and Skew for pointing a manual satellite antenna. If you want to watch Network programming in the town where you are currently located you must call (or even better begin a chat session) and let them know that you need to change your SERVICE ADDRESS.....not your billing address....and give them an exact address including zip code. If it is an RV park then I suggest that you add your site number as there are going to be multiple accounts registered at that address. You might stumble a bit on your first attempt but once you get used to saying the right thing it's pretty easy to change as often as you like. Now, with that said, I would not call if I am only going to be at a location for a day or three and would use my OTA TV antenna for the Networks. All other channels are available anywhere you travel without restriction so no call to anyone is necessary if you want to watch ESPN, Food Network or the Cartoon Channel everywhere you park. This call only applies to ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX. For DirecTV it is also CW and PBS but I am not sure about Dish. Assuming you mean you think you are already a Dish customer I will not discuss the other option of DNS Networks as they are not available from Dish, only DirecTV. That certainly clears it up for me. So, no matter where I go if I just want to watch satellite TV all I need to do is put up the dish. However, if I want to see the local network channels I can either use my OTA TV antenna or call my satellite service and ask them to change my SERVICE address and give them an exact address for where I'm parked and site# if in a RV park. But, in looking at the entire situation, our friends satellite was installed by CW and now they cannot get cable if the park they are at offers it. Is that true with all coaches that have satellite installed? My DH and I have been thinking our friends have so many issues receiving satellite wherever they go that it's totally not worth it. We pretty much can receive anything we want to watch using the OTA antenna or cable if the park offers it and no additional cost factors for us.. We are not huge TV watchers anyway and mostly enjoy being outside doing something. Thanks to all for the info. I knew this was the place to go to get answers. Just so much knowledge on this forum. BillAdams Report post Posted September 12, 2016 It's quite likely that CW re-wired their cable connection for the reception of satellite TV ONLY. In my opinion that's a mistake on CW's part but if the owners did not make it clear that they wanted to be able to use their exterior connection for both cable and satellite then CW "may" have done what they were asked to do. It's a pretty easy fix involving a bit of cabling and an A/B switch but you (they) need to find someone familiar with this kind of wiring. Most any RV show would have satellite TV specialists and some RV dealers (including CW) would be able to set up this option if they are properly trained. I did this for about 12 years so it's a no-brainer to me but a complete mystery to many.

BillAdams Report post Posted October 18, 2016 Clearly, that's just a rumor. No matter what DirecTV does or does not do, none of the dome style antennas will be able to receive the HD signals.
manholt Report post Posted October 18, 2016 Sad, but true! My bat wing died so now I have a Rayzar Automatic for OTA and it worked as advertised...currently on cable in a RV park. 48 channels and thats more than I can or want to watch. Have had all the domes and open dish on roof, don't miss it or the $84 a month! Carl
