KWcowboy Report post Posted August 30, 2016 After driving daily for past couple of weeks, suddenly turbocharger makes rattly/raspy sound like the muffler is plugged up or something... Changed filters, took air hoses from turbo to diaphragm and blew against with compressed air... the gate moves. Checked hoses, no obvious cracks or problems... It seems to have lost some power and is using more fuel.
dickandlois Report post Posted August 30, 2016 Take a close look around the area of all the exhaust ports and see if there is a black streak or smug looking spot(s) around the ports or where the turbo bolts to the manifold. These black areas would indicate a leak around the seals or a crack in the manifold. Depending on the engine there is often a hose running between the intake manifold and the air compressor input, these lines tend to baloney and fail, the opening is not always evident. Rich. desertdeals69 Report post Posted August 30, 2016 With the intake hose off reach in and see if there is any side play on the turbine shaft. Should rotate freely but no end or side play.
