We have the problem that we have grown too large and I need any suggestions as to Parks that will have room for 35 to 40+ sites for future Rallies in the Six State Area .

You can contact me by email @ michaelhillhouse@msn.com so we don't take up too much space on the forum.

I would appreciate and help from Current or former Wagon Master or anyone who could help , Six State consists of TX, AR , LA, KS , MO , OK

    Regards

    Michael

You might try Braunig Lake RV Resort at Elmendorf (just south of San Antonio).

    or

Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville, Texas.

  2. Stay with a wired system and call Tim at RVCams.

    http://www.rvcams.com/

    (877)378-2267

Tim set me up with a color monitor and camera which worked with my wiring and I love it.  He did the same for Bill Adams.

You can order directly from their website but I would advise talking to Tim.  You can tell him what you have now and he can give you several options.  And if you have a problem setting it up, he can walk you through it.

We are upgrading all the TV's in our Alfa. Learning so much about the coach in what was done at the factory and what wasn't. I found a 110 volt plug already wired hidden in the wall above the passenger seat. We got the enclosure off the front and it is cracked pretty good. Looking at getting it fixed or replaced.

Any ideas from anyone on where to go in the Denver Area?

Check with Leisure Coachworks (formerly Alfateers) for a replacement.

  4. I don't have a lot of information to offer but maybe it will help.

We traveled part of your route in 2012 on the way to Alaska.  We picked up Highway 2 at Fort McLeod on the way to Calgary where we took Highway 1 to Lake Louise.  The highways were excellent all the way.  We went around Calgary to the south then to the west and stayed at Spring Hill RV Park in Cochrane, AB.

In Fort McLeod, you will find the Northwest Mounted Police Museum which is set in a replica fort.

In Calgary, you can visit the Canada Olympic Park and Heritage Park Historical Village.

We stayed in Banff National Park at Tunnel Mountain Campground.  Beautiful scenery.  We were in Tunnel Mountain Village 2 Campground and we had full hookups but that is limited to just a few sites. All of Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court has full hookups (don't let the name trailer court deter you - great scenery).  Downtown Banff is a great visit as is Canmore just a short distance away.

Then further up Highway 1 is Lake Louise which is a must see.  From there we left Highway 1 and went up the Icefield Parkway to Jasper, AB so I can't say anything about the highway or sights on to Vancouver.

  5. Bill,

Glad to hear you had a great experience with Tim and RV CAMS.  They worked with us in 2012 replacing the Weldex backup system in our coach.  They set us up with a color system that could use our old wiring harness.  Tim suggested removing the plug in connectors on each end of the harness and soldering all connections but I really did not want to put that much effort into it.  I finally ended up doing the solder job last year and have had no problems since.  I found that Tim responds quickly to emails and phone calls.

    Ray,

Porch Light is no problem. You just place your right foot on the space between the passengers seat and the wall. Swing your left leg out around the door facing and hook you leg on the grab bar. With your right hand holding on to the inside grab bar for dear life, reach up with your left hand and remove the porch light cover. Move the cover to your mouth, but don't hold it with your teeth, because you might bite it into when you land on you backside. Wiggly the bulb. If it comes on then reverse the procedure.  Or maybe a ladder might be the best chose.

    Have a great trip.

We have a new class A motor home and looking for someplace warm for our first winter. Looking into Florida and Alabama.

    Any other recommendations?

    Welcome to the FMCA Forums.

We try to plan our winter site based on travel plans both before and after winter.  Where are you located now and where do you want to go after winter?  What do you want to do during the winter?

We were in New Mexico for 4 months during 2014 visiting with friends and trout fishing.  Sandra has a sister we wanted to visit in the Phoenix area and the Alfa Owners Club had scheduled a rally in Arizona during April 2015.  So we spent the winter in Apache Junction, AZ.  This was a perfect base to visit Jerome, Bisbee, Tucson, Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff, Yuma, Grand Canyon and view the beautiful Superstition Mountains every morning.

Last year we traveled east of the Mississippi through the Midwest, Great Lakes, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and down the east coast to Florida where we arrived November 1st in the St. Augustine area to spend the winter.  Enjoyed the history in St. Augustine and the Tampa RV Supershow and fishing along the coast and in tidal creeks.

This winter we are in Hondo, Texas just west of San Antonio.  Very few really cold days.  This will probably be our winter home in the future as we plan to spend our winters in Texas and summers in Colorado.

You will also find some good parks around Rockport, Texas.  We looked at the Rio Grand Valley but it was a little too far from our son and his family just north of Austin, Texas.

Every time you guys post a CG in Texas I can't help but click on the link and browse, all the while this is my face :o. I really need to spend some time in Texas exploring, WOW!

When you get to Texas, plan a few days at Davis Mountains State Park and visit the lodge there.  Also a very short drive to McDonald Observatory - their night time Star Party is very educational

OK, I'll bite....WTH are "scare" lights?

CarlAda.  That's my question?   Perhaps motion?

    Leary.  Thanks for the link!

Here is a quote from Google when you search for scare light.

"A scare light is a light designed to brightly illuminate the sides of a trailer as a way to scare of a possible intruder. Sometimes they are motion detector style lights that will turn off and on as they detect motion. "

Over the last week I was camping with a friend who has a new 42 foot Fifth Wheel.  LED Rope Lights was permanently mounted under both awnings.  They did light up the campsite, but the problem was that they also blinded anyone who was not sitting with their backs to the trailer...we also heard some unkind comments from passerby's and neighbors!  I want to put some on my coach...also replace my porch light with LED.

The question is.  Will yellow, blue or red diffuse the blinding effect and still give me outside light to grill under and see my friends?  Have any off you used, use, or have experience with outside LED lights?

    Carl

    Carl,

About 2 years ago I converted our 3 round outside "Scare"  lights and porch light to LED.  I used the following to do the conversion:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/201161822452?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The porch light was simple - just remove the old bulb, plug the adapter into the socket and attach the panel to the back of the light housing.  The "scare" lights were more difficult.  I used four panels in each light and soldered the wiring together.  To me, the "scare" lights are not so bright that they will blind people but just right for lighting up the area.

  11. Denis, Gail and Dixie,

Welcome to the FMCA forum.  Sounds like you have covered the entire range of camping.  We went from a tent to a 35 ft. Hurricane to our current coach.  Enjoy your retirement and see this great country.  We sold our home in central Texas in 2011, hit the road full time and have never regretted it.

Snowflake, Arizona sounds like it might be cold in winter!  But then Maryland is not the tropics in winter,  We visited our grandson at Indian Head, MD in October 2015 and he said it would be getting cold there.

We are now spending our winters west of San Antonio, Texas and the summers in southern Colorado.  If you get near San Antonio, TX or Antonito, CO give us a call.
