  1. Mid August we will be going from Columbus, OH area on I-90 to Albany, NY and then the White Mountains of NH. I've heard the Five Lakes area is beautiful and would like suggestions on what best to see and/or reasonable campgrounds in that area. Plus campgrounds bordering the lakes. Thanks! Jocelynn and Quico Power 28' Coachmen/Concord with tow Gainesville, FL
  2. HELLO! Planning on visiting the White Mountains in mid August '16. There are so many campgrounds, I'd like your opinion on which would be best. We prefer with electricity and water hookup (is August hot?). And normally look into National Parks or State Parks which are less expensive, then private but not expensive KOA's. After 4-6 days there, we'll go to Acadia. Suggestions? Thank you! Jocelynn and Oscar (Quico) Power 2004 Coachmen/Concord with tow Gainesville, Florida
  3. Thank you all.... will seriously take those reccomendations into account!!
  4. Hopefully this year we will finally reach Maine to visit Acadia National Park in August. Would anyone recommend a good campground on Mt. Desert Island? I've only found Seawall and Blackwoods in the Nat'l Pk and two Koa's which are too expensive. We can go "dry" but of course, electricity and/or water hook up would be preferred. We plan on staying for 7-10 days to drive around (no sports). Any other recommendations for this trip will be appreciated! Thank you, Jocelynn Mrs. Oscar (Quico) Power 2004 Coachmen/28' Concord with tow Gainesville, FL no pets
  5. Hello Everyone! We couldn't make it to Acadia last summer, the transmission on our RV broke down. I heard today that gasoline should be going way down, to $1.00-$1.50 within a few months ( before, sadly, they go up again in the summer) so now I'm like in a ...."let's go north!!" mode. However, everything I read is of people going over during the high season, late summer. --- Has anyone gone up earlier in the summer... --- is there too much snow in late May? --- Best direct route, (although we prefer NOT thru "big cities" and congested areas). Thank you! Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL 28' Coachmen Concord with tow
  6. Just last month we stayed at Lk Aire RV C/G at Hollywood, SC it is about 5 miles south of Charleston. We'd go back anytime! Nice clean And spacious areas, nice people and reasonable prices. Jocelynn and Oscar Power Gainesville, FL
  7. Thank you Herman, Boyers and Paulrl: For the past three years we've been going to Colorado and returning thru three different routes (N, S and mid). This summer is a "close by" quicker trip.... Thus, we did make reservations at Barren River as the Boyer's suggested. Also Mt. Pisgah (Elev 5,700') and the Cumberland Falls of KY.
  8. Thank you! I will look into those and someone else also suggested Black Mountain area.....??
  9. The heat in Central Florida is almost unbearable! 100 degrees in Orlando yesterday! We'd like to go somewhere "cooler" during July and August.... not too far, like East and South of Kentucky, NOT beaches.... Where is the highest mountain or the coolest area that you can suggest we go? We prefer National/State parks, second choice would be "reasonable rates" not necessarily "resort rates" for campgrounds. Any suggestions? Thanks! Jocelynn and Oscar (Quico) Power Gainesville, FL '04 Concord/Coachmen w tow no pets, no kids
  10. Unfortunately we had to delay our trip to next year.... but would love to hear about your experience and suggestions! Jocelynn and Quico (Oscar Power) Gainesville, FL
  11. While in Colorado last year, I heard on TV of the "Storm Shield" app. I downloaded it on my smartphone and it gave me updates on bad weather all the time, it "traveled" with us, without having to update our locations.... even when at the upper peninsula of Michigan (Sault St. Marie area), and now at home. Highly recommend it!! Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL 28' Coachmen/Concord w/tow
  12. Black flies? Ouch! I'm allergic to the yellow flies we have down here in FL.... glad to know about those too! And, thank you for your input! Good to know! Jocelynn
  13. Between FL and Memphis, one trip I've had in my bucket list is the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is 444 miles long, from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN. Google it and you will find many interesting little towns to visit along the way, with plenty of campgrounds. This is not exactly "on your way" as most probably you will be passing "over it" (think of an X), but good to consider if you have the time. Safe travels! 14. Last summer we stopped at South Dakota' Custer National Park and stayed for a week at the Blue Bell campground. The hosts were very nice and helpful. From there we visited everything there is to see in most of Central and South of SD. Had a great experience! Enjoy your trip, don't rush and relax! 15. Eodted: How was your trip on ST Road 11 ? I am considering going North on the Blue Ridge Pkwy as of where I-77 crosses it. Did you take that route and how was it? Any c/grounds you suggest for overnight? We have a 28' Coachmen/Concord with tow. Thank you, Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL
  16. Thank you JohnArch for your input... I was not planning on going northern route, more like your option 3. Actually what I had highlighted this morning, was similar... Tupper Lake - S on 30 to 28N 28 N east to I-87 S to Glen Falls Glen Falls to North to 4 to Rutland, then Quechee/Wh River (like you mentioned) then N on I-91 to cross river on 302 and then Twin Mtn. Again, thank you! Jocelynn W Power
  17. Hello! Need more advice from all of you experienced travelers! :-) On our way North late this summer (August), we would like to go from Tupper Lake, NY to Twin Mountain, NH before heading to Acadia. I've seen Mapquests options and have seen the Atlas maps... however, I'm sure those routes are not taking in consideration the motorhomes' length and heights. Ours is not a big rig, but neither is too small and also we tow a car. Which route would you suggest that we take? Mapquest says its about 4-1/2 hrs, however, my husband doesn't drive fast, so probably we would need to overnight at a Walmart or gas station.... Thank you! Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL Coachmen/Concord 28' and tow
  18. Thank you dwrollins! Liked your advice on going to the cape during summer wkds! It will be our first visit to Boston, so probably will look into the historic part of the city, look for c/g close to it then drive in the tow car to the cape. Safe travels! Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL
  19. Hi again, You might want to look at a posting I recently did on Acadia. I got a very good info on Mt. Desert Island. Also, I've read a lot on the White Mountains, north of N. H. and they seem very interesting. Safe travels, Jocelynn Wirshing-Power.
  20. You have certainly answered my question, specially with your comment on the bridge crossing. I am already falling in love with the island! Most probably I will plan to be almost two weeks at the island and probably one more in the mainland. Thank you so much! Jocelynn
  21. We are starting to plan our NEastern States visit for late summer/early fall (August/September). Goal is to reach Acadia National Park and spend a couple of weeks there and/or at the small towns on the East Coast of Main. Maybe also visit some FMCA friends at Nova Scotia. My questions to other members: 1. Would you drive all the way to Acadia and do day visits to the other towns, or would it be too far due to smaller roads and traffic? Normally we "park" and visit towns under 2 hrs. away. 2. Or would it be better to "park" at a more southern town for about a week or two and then go up to Acadia for another week or two? Normally we leave the c/g around noon and visit in the afternoons. (C/G recommendations??) We are seniors, taking it easy... no rush, just enjoying the views, the towns, their people. Thank you for your input! Jocelynn and Quico Power '04 Coachmen/Concord 28' w/tow Gainesville, FL
  22. Last June we stayed at LBL, the farthest N campground, close to Grand Rivers. The area is beautiful, however, we found this c/g to be too crowded as the sites were very close to one another. If you have young kids, you might like it.... there were kids running around all over. We are seniors and were looking for another environment. If you tow a boat, you will have a grand time cruising around the island. It is truly beautiful. Also the tiny town is very nice. Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL Coachman/Concord 28' w/ tow
  23. We love the sunsets at Turtle Beach Campground, a county facility at Siesta Key. It is a tiny facility, 40 sites only and with no amenities.... except a laundry and restroom building. We like it because it is only a 50 feet walk to the beach. They do have full hookups and wifi. It fills up easily. If you know ahead of time, you can reserve 6 mo before. Otherwise, call often for cancellations. Address is: 8862 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota, FL 34242. Or web: https://www.scgov.net/turtlebeachcampground/Pages/default.aspx. Ph (941)349-3839. 24. Hello! We will be following your topic... :-) As we are also planning to go up to Maine and Nova Scotia around the end of July 2015. Specially recommendations you you receive on campgrounds! At last year's FMCA - GA rally we met a couple from N.S. that is now visiting South FL and they have suggested the route 81 to 88 and then to 95 if we go straight to Maine. We start making our reservations in late January, mainly at National/State/CoE campgrounds and from there we look into Passport America/Good Sams and last the more expensive ones of KOA. Good luck in your planning! Jocelynn and Quico Power Gainesville, FL 28' Coachmen/Concord with tow
