  1. Kent,

    Another welcome to the Forum. When it comes to diesel motorhomes the following should be on your list:

    1. Buy the floor plan you want.

    2. Buy the horsepower you need for the motorhome weight plus the toad.

    3. Mileage will be affected by many factors; weight of RV and toad, winds, speed, and road elevation. The only things you can control are weight and speed.

    I too would stay away from any add-ons as Cummins and Cat have developed the spec's for torque and horsepower. If more of each is required buy a different coach.

  2. A 10 micron filter provides better filtration, but will have a higher pressure drop across the element. If you are looking for a spin-on element there are 10 micron elements that are longer providing a larger element surface area which would then bring down the pressure drop. Obviously you would need the room for a longer element. I would think a call to ASV service would be the best option for you at this time to determine if a 10 micron element would be approved for this application.


  3. This is a new one on me. Last May when we left our storage spot for a trip, a lot of black beetles fell from the bottom of our motorhome right by the tires. As I pulled out, I did run over a lot of them. I called the management of the storage facility of explained the problem. They went out and looked at my neighbor's rigs and did not find any beetles. We went on a 1,000-mile round trip and parked the rig after the 10-day trip.

    Two days ago I checked the rig, started the engine and pulled forward slightly. More beetles fell from the bottom again, just not quite as many. It seems like they stay in place until the rig is moved. Do they like the chassis grease or the air bags or air lines or what?

    Has anyone experienced this, and if so, what did you do to remedy the problem?


  4. Good idea Rich. Maybe FMCA could have a section in the Forum by manufacturer that would list drawings and manuals by model and year. An explicit denial of liability should be included as some recalls etc may have affected the information published, and, as you know, Murphy's Law will apply to some issues.


  5. I like Herman's and Tom's post. I too drive like Herman in the lanes he indicated. Why someone driving a motorhome would question the higher speed limits for cars and trucks baffles me. I set the cruise for 58 MPH and let everyone pass. At that speed the coach is a dream to drive and we get great fuel mileage. We like to travel no more than 300 miles a day so that gives us about 6 hours travel time before stopping for the night.

    I have essentially the same coach only a year older. Recently my step cover is acting erratic. I have two different buttons that control the cover, one on the panel with the camera display and one on the passenger's side. Regardless of which button is used the cover will or will not activate. We wait a while and then the cover will activate. We will be in the coach tomorrow and will try the cover again. I have checked the fuse and it is good. If it is still intermittent then further trouble shooting is in order.

    My stainless steel braid valve extensions were leaking air from the rear outside tires. I went to a tire dealer and they installed new steel bolt-in valves, and a European design valve extension that is plastic with a rod down the middle. These extensions do not have air in them except when checking or filling the tires. I checked and found that these are DOT approved and seem to be a better design than the stainless braid.

    Since you are a tire professional I would welcome your comments.


  8. Sitting in Lazy Days KOA at this moment. We stay at KOA's a lot. The management is friendly and helpful. The cost may be a bit higher but the overall amenities make up for it.

    I can't understand why we need to email you when you could just use these posts???

    The Knight and Ambassador are essentially the same coach. I have a 2008 H/R Ambassador 40SKQ. The only slide that is cable operated is the small bedroom slide on the road side of the coach. The two large slides are electric gear operated on a rack.

    It would be helpful if you would list your model number and year.
