  1. Like punxsyjumper, had cards (QSL) back in the CB days... While at a campground for the Solar Eclipse, a couple we met handed out cards with their info... DUH! what a great idea and easy. We are getting some printed.
  2. Kahlua/cream and the hot tub.... climbing up and down the ladder several times found some muscles which hadn't been used for a while
  3. Okay, so I finally got the materials I needed and got back up on the roof. Cleaned away the caulking around where the coax goes thru the roof. Surprise... a plate hiding a connector splice.... job just became much easier. I disconnected the old piece of cable, ran a new cable from the jack on the antenna head, leaving a service loop on the antenna, and another at the antenna base. Connected the cable at both ends, applied lots of new caulk and went inside and check it out...seems to work great. Thanks to everyone for suggestions and guidance.

    Santa Fe Trail

Finished the trip, no major incidents. Altered the route a little because we stayed an extra day in one place. Took the Mountain Route from Dodge City to La Junta CO. Did stop at the Tall Grass Prairie, really interesting. Did a short hike there (~ 2 mi.), to the top of a ridge to look for buffalo, saw a small group on the ridge, before we even go there, a bull standing by itself, we were probably 3/4 mile away and how it stood out against the sky was incredible...the size of it. Pulled into Pawnee Rock, not advised for a big rig and a towed. Had to up the wrong way because we couldn't make the turn through the gate. Got turned around at the top and came back out. Saw the wagon ruts west of Dodge City. Was a great trip.
  5. BtllAdams. not sure if it is a factory install or not, it is an older Tiffin (1998) with a crank up Winguard. I will post my results when I finish.
  6. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Think that I will try the repair by putting the connector splice in as the first try. I'm a bit afraid that, as some suggest, the cable may be tied in a bundle and part way through the pull everything will stop. If the connector thing doesn't work the it will be pulling time.
  7. So on last trip we didn't have any TV reception. Discovered that the antenna coax was broken/cut about 2 inches outside where it comes thru the roof. Any suggestions on replacing? Can I pull new cable by attaching to the old cable and pulling the new cable thru. If so should I pull from thru inside to the outside or outside into the inside?
  8. Thanks to everyone and the suggestions and comments. Since this first trip was a short one, only a few stops, I just ended up jumping the battery, or putting the charger (which I purchased the 1st night out) on it. I read in my Invisabrake manual that if you turn on the running lights on the RV the Invisabrake is suppose to put a trickle charge on the battery...didn't work! I am going to do the fuse bypass switch thing and see how that works. I think the charge line idea is great too. On my Honda, when I shut the ignition off with the transmission in neutral, the key will only go to the accessory position, not to the off position. Again thanks for all the comments.
  9. Just stayed 2 nights at Campus RV Park in Independence MO. Nice little park. very convenient to Frontier Trails Museum; Truman House and museum; Church of Latter Day Saints Temple Headquarters/Monuments. The only slight negative is the train noise from near by tracks. Not so bad as to keep you awake, but you hear them come by a number of times a day. Got FMCA discount. Very nice and friendly folks there. I had to call and push our reservations out a day, it was not a problem.
  10. We have a 2011 Honda CR-V which just got all set up for towing with a Roadmaster Falcon 2 and the Invisibrake. Did the transmission procedure, just as a side note. Stopped after about 300 miles to perform the transmission procedure again (as is recommended) and the battery was dead. Got it jumped and did the procedure... Now I think I may have read something somewhere about pulling a fuse, but can't remember where I read it. Does anyone know if I can just disconnect the negative terminal on the battery? Concerned that maybe the transmission procedure may configure something in the computer and disconnecting the battery would cause any code to be lost and consequently there goes the transmission... Thanks is advance for any comments.

    Santa Fe Trail

Wildebill308; Thanks for the link... I will spend some time going thru it. I was at that site earlier, but not the map portion of it. Thanks again
  12. We are going to start in Independence MO 6/1 and head West, following the Santa Fe trail with a couple of side trips to the Tall Grass Prairie and the Salt Mines in Hutchinson KS. Plan to take the Cimarron branch, south out of Dodge City KS. Anyone doing something similar?
  13. This has nothing to do with a Class A but.... the topic brought back funny memories... Way back when... a while on a deer hunting trip, the kitchen sink in my friends pickup slide in camper got stopped up. He told his wife to watch the sink while he went out side to try to clear it. Well she was watching the sink drain...looking down into it, when he blew through the drain hose... yep you guessed it... , a loud scream came from within the camper as the stoppage cleared, right into here face. We had to cook our own supper that night!
  14. Campcop: Yes it is very clean, both inside and out. Only had 28.6K on it, turned over to 30K on the way home. obedb: Ironically, the first and second day of driving that is exactly where I kept them. Then this morning when I started it up I tossed the second set on the dash. Wildebill308: When I went to look at it in Aug, I checked the tires...they were originals. The dealer put a new set of 6 on as part of the deal. Yep, it didn't take me long to find a hiding spot for the second set of keys.
  15. Well, first thanks to all on the forums for all the questions you have answered. In August I went to CA to look at, and ended up purchasing a 1999 Tiffin Allegro BUS. I had some custom work done on it (fireplace w/retractable TV) and flew out on Thursday to pick it up. What a thrill...driving in LA traffic at 3:00pm...white knuckles subsided by 10:00pm in Barstow CA. Arrived in Colorado Springs this afternoon... Was really anxious about the trip, having never had or driven a Diesel, and probably reading too many posts of people having problems. Only issues not caused by me were a loose battery connection which caused the Check Engine light to come on around Kingman Az. My engine monitor told me it had lost battery power while the key was on and to shut it down for about 5 sec. Did that and it was good again. Other problem was at about 3:30 this morning just after I left Gallup NM and stopped and adjusted the mirrors from the outside... you guessed it, slammed the door.. darn forgot to unlock it when I did and now was locked out... screwdriver from a nearby hotel desk and a little work and I got a door open. Fun experiences (well I can smile about them now) and really looking forward to get some trips planned. Just short ones to start, but delayed retirement is only 2 yr. away unless I am having too much fun. Again thanks to all. Speck
  16. shoveldog; Can really get to be frustrating...been there done that. Been looking for about 18 mo, went and walked through a few... saw one that we liked, but was told I couldn't by it by the seller, had another interested party flying in to see it, they had 1st choice... I can respect the seller on that...bottom line it sold. Called on a few and was always a day late! Well, today I am flying to Calif. to look at, what I hope will be my new (to me) motorhome...1999 Tiffin Allegro Bus. You might do some searches on RVT.com and RVTrader.com you can input your $ limit and search by brands if you like. That is how I found the latest one. Good Luck Speck

    Fuel Economy

All, as usual thanks for the comments... The coach was a 2008 Newmar, 38 ft w/3 slides. I believe the engine is a 340 Cummins ISB 6,7. It is listed on PPL, is I can say that. It just seemed to me that it was extremely good economy if it is true. Has an interesting floor plan...kitchen right behind the driver and dinining behind passenger, with living area next in line, both sides. In the YouTube video I saw the presenter did call it a FRED; the kitchen was mid-coach with the bath and then the bedroom. The bath also had a hallway back to the bedroom (bypassing the bath). The living was up front, more of what I would call normal. jleamont; thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

    Fuel Economy

I just saw a 2008 Newmar Grand Star listed on a site. While doing a little checking on it I learned that it was a front diesel. In a YouTube video, it was stated that it had fuel economy of 10 to 14 mpg. Anyone got any comments pro or con?
  19. Wolfe10 Thanks for the input. I am amazed at the number of things to look at and checkout while looking for that 1special motor home to buy. Again, thanks.
  20. As I continue to look for my 1st Class A (used) I have come across Air Suspension and a BFG Torsilastic Suspension. I would appreciate any comments or word of wisdom on either or both of these suspensions... The motorhomes I saw these on were Safari. Since I don't get on here daily... Thanks in advance to anyone with contributions. Speck
  21. Again thanks for the inputs. I found the discussion about Colorado vs. other areas interesting. Besides looking online at various areas; CA, UT, OR, WA, AZ, NM, TX etc, I keep my eyes open for something here in CO as well on different media. This particular one just caught my eye because of the low miles. Talked over the phone with the owner, he is a mechanic by trade, just sold his shop, so he has done all that type maintenance himself...says up to date but no records. The usage was mostly short trips, a few long ones; sat for about 6 mo. a year or two ago. One bad comment was that the air conditioner shroud got damaged and allowed water to get in, some light water stain on part of the internal panel around the AC vent. That could be the show stopper for me...had water damage on a Class C a few years ago. Am waiting for photos of the interior.
  22. Once again thanks for the input. I have requested some more information from the seller, but haven't received a response yet. I'm in CO and the motorhome is in CA, so I haven't seen the inside except for a couple of pictures. I have also requested a lot more pictures, want to have a better feeling about it before I make a long road trip to see it. Since this is new to me (going to a Class A), I would definitely have it taken to a RV service center to have it inspected.
  23. Again, thanks for all the inputs... Now another question, In my search, I have found a 2002 Safari, 350HP Cummins with only 18k miles. should I be leery of a 14 y/o coach with this few miles. Either short trips or it has been sitting. Of coarse, if I get real serious on this one, I would have someone inspect it for me. Any inputs, comments, or cautions are greatly appreciated.
  24. Sorry for not responding back right away, takes me a while to get back to check on things. Thanks to all for all the comments, they were all helpful..my search will continue, but I have more information than I started with. Greg
  25. Realizing that there are many decisions to be made when purchasing a motorhome, I need a little help. I am looking to purchase a used Class A Diesel, 34 to 40 ft. I think I am interested in a model with a mid-entry as opposed to a front entry. Can some of you folks give the names of manufactures of motorhomes with the mid-entry?
