  1. Big difference between more than a "few days" to months at a time... I try to take my rig out at least once a week to exercise it.. parking on concrete driveway should not be a problem...mine is right in front of my house.
  2. Yes, I agree to a point...and depreciation is WHY I purchased a five-year old coach with very low miles, but, remember that depreciation is only important if you intend to sell.
  3. Yes, very aerodynamic... fuel is the MOST expensive thing you put in a vehicle over time.
  4. Well, well, well.... Bill, something must have happened on the way to forum...if you know what I mean.... take a look at this blog from 2016 on the Holiday Rambler XE.. some really pissed off clients.. Do I think this particular guy made mistakes, YES. Did he buy an inexpensive Class A... YES. Did he FAIL to do an inspection, YES. Do I think that it matters to purchase a higher quality motor home,. YES. I definitely think it's NOT a good idea to purchase the low price leader... Otherwise, purchase something of higher quality used. See these posts of people complaining of poor build quality. Pathetic response from dealerships too. http://www.rvforum.net/SMF_forum/index.php?topic=95696.0
  5. 18 plus MPG... YES, no kidding... even climbing mountain grades.. Go ahead... take a look at my rig... it's true... I might be able to get 19 or 20 on flat areas cruising on the road...
  6. Bill, maybe.... the original poster said "Problems included main slide hanging up on and ripping out adjacent cabinet, non-functioning generator, water leak in the fill connector, entry step not working, crack in the exterior fiberglass wall, vehicle tends to wander when driven...the list goes on to a point where it becomes painfully obvious HR manufacturing has no Quality Control Organization/function whatsoever" i don't know how you can misinterpret that....YES, I agree completely that the pre-delivery inspection was not handled properly... This person ran a lot of "red lights"..if you know what I mean. He should have read reports of motor homes online. ARE you saying that you don't agree that there's a lot of substandard Class A and Class C motor homes built cheaply just to sell... The range in price on these units, like $75,000 for a bargain Class A to more than $2 million for a top end Class A... I'm sure you can appreciate what I'm saying...a $2 million diesel pusher like an Entegra motor home is going to be much higher quality and workmanship than the Thor ACE coach for $91,000 Here's two examples below, I would expect the Entegra to have none of the issues that the Holiday Rambler had.. https://www.entegracoach.com/motorhomes/insignia/ http://www.generalrv.com/product/new-2018-thor-motor-coach-ace-30-dot-2-616792-9
  7. Maybe I'm wrong...but from what I've read there seems to be a very wide range of quality in Class A and Class C motor homes. Unfortunately, this poor individual decided to purchase this Class A probably based on price and was not paying attention to reviews online before he looked at purchasing this model... Thor ACE Motor Coaches comes to mind as a very inexpensive and poorly finished motor home...we looked at one and were very underwhelmed by the quality... and gas engine.. that's probably a comparable model to what this person purchased?
  8. Herman, no worries.. yes, it's just a van as you stated... that's what I like about it, smaller and easily manueveable.
  9. You might be right... I'm going to look into it..
  10. We have full coverage...but, they said it's for "recreational purposes only", SO, they don't want us just using this to go to the store if we're home and we can use our other two cars.. I guess they want to limit their liability.
  11. Bill, that's a very good question, thanks for asking. We've had our Roadtrek RS Adventurous since the beginning of May this year and have taken three trips and have already been out 15 days... We're going again in early August for another five days and in late September we're going for two months...so, yes, we travel. The whole reason I wanted a smaller more mobile rig was so fuel consumption would NOT be an issue. Ironically, I'm going to be MORE CONCERNED about data consumption and here's why.. on one of our trips, we decided to stream a movie... I was told that the streaming would not take that much data, but, I was surprised to discover that the 2 1/2 movie we watched was four GBs...we could have gone out for dinner and the movie for the price of the HD movie download and the streaming...like $46... yikes. I called and complained about that and they gave me a $20 credit.. It's not that I don't appreciate streaming, Google Play or maps, but, if I'm going to be data dependent on the road, I'd rather have the unlimited plan again.. much the same as a you have? Didn't you say you had unlimited? I'm not against the unlimited plans as long as I'm using them.... kinda hate to pay for something we're not using. I realize that Maps and Waze don't use as much as streaming movies, but, we go through 15 MB.. really fast just doing normal browsing. As far as connection, there's been too many times when we're out in an area and there's NO INTERNET....and we hadn't planned on this. That's when a stand alone Garmin really comes in handy. When we purchased our vehicle, used, it had a really poor radio navigation system.. with a horrible back up camera that made it impossible to see out the rear of the coach...so, I replaced all of this with an upgraded system and navigation... I sort of figured that this was all part of the purchase price... since we acquired the vehicle for a really good price it seemed reasonable to me. I've already figured out that if we need to make the jump to Verizon our phones can do it... SO, if that has to be done, we'll switch... Haven't decided that is necessary yet. The problem with Google Project Fi is that there's no upper limit on data, so, it's $10 per GB.. if we used $15 GBs between two phones, that would be $150 for data plus our $75 per month....don't want that. The more we travel, the closer I'll get to making the leap to Verizon.
  12. Thanks for your reply...hey, when you use your vehicle in these situations, are you concerned about insurance?
  13. How may of you take your Class B rigs out on short day excursions or even occasionally use your RV as a second vehicle.. and keep it as a base of operations?
  14. YES... I agree completely...We still use maps and get them from AAA... Maps are GREAT to show you an entire area as an overview... You can't easily get that from Google or Garmin.
  15. Yeah, it's not for everyone.... We use it sparingly... And a lot of Wi-Fi... however, we get a direct refund each month for data we don't use.. kind of balances out when we go off the grid. We only pay for what we actually use, no roll over minutes.. or useless promotions like that. I think if I were to go out more.. like 6 months or more, I might be tempted to get a flat rate service. I had the unlimited data plan on T-MOBILE.. didn't use it to justify paying almost $180 per month.. Either way, you pay for your data.
  16. Bill, I really appreciate Google Maps.... thanks, however, YES, you're absolutely correct.. except that in order to download the maps, you have to have INTERNET access...I'm talking about cases where you don't have that option.... Have you tried using the INTERNET in National Park? It doesn't work very well..... especially Death Valley, Grand Canyon or Yellowstone... Satellite systems are completely independent. and operate from at least 24 satellites working anywhere in the world 24 hours per day. Garmin is a lot more reliable than Google Maps. Procedure below for downloading Google Maps...psst, you can't always download every area you planned or unplanned location in advance..it's not that easy. Besides, since we're on Google Project Fi...we pay $10 per GB for all downloads, so, the Garmin is the least expenses option. Download an area to use offline On your phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app . Make sure you're connected to the Internet and signed in to Google Maps. Search for a place, like San Francisco . At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place. ... Select Download .
  17. Google Maps are GREAT.. provided you have Internet ? We definitely use Google a lot, but, it's always need to have a backup redundant system.. and Garmin is very good.. If you haven't tried Android Auto.. give it a test drive....
  18. thestoloffs-. Thanks for this....I understand that it's currently NOT REQUIRED. BUT, is that the best answer here. You wrote "These vehicles don't have air bags because the distance between dashboard / steering wheel and seat is too far for a rapidly deployed air bag to be effective in a collision meeting NHTSA's testing criteria." Should they be retrofitted or redesigned? YES, they should.. You wouldn't fly on airlines that don't have safety equipment would you? Maybe the airbag needs to deployed from the sides and ceiling? I think all of these things need to be questioned and just saying it's not effective is not an effort to make these vehicles safer for everyone. YES, I understand that a "standard airbag" may not work... isn't it time to ask whether a solution is possible? We've found a way to land on the moon...I'm sure there's a solution for this too. My two cents. Will it be expensive? Sure..all new technology is. Where would we be if no one ever asked about seat belts in cars? Now, 40 plus years later we have seat belts, airbags and other standard equipment in cars. I'm sure that plenty of people prior to the mandatory seat belts in cars would have benefitted from them in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Look, if people don't actually die from these accidents, they might well be hospitalized, rack up high medical bills, maybe declare bankruptcy, if their insurance runs, out and guess who pays for all of that... yes, we do.
  19. How many of you have electronic stability control? Do these stabilizers discussed here take the place of this? I'm not sure it's possible to add on ESC after the fact or at the very least extremely expensive? But, it would be a very good idea if you could.

K- Beautiful interior...reminds me of this little you tube video.... your coach is just as nice as this one below, even better that you personalized it yourself.... I'll bet that you didn't sink 2 million into your conversion...of course, this one is newer below, but, heck, who cares... Again, marvelous use of space, and I'm sure that you're the envy of a lot of people with RVs...does look like a movie stars rig.... KUDOS..... ---MARK
  21. K- next time someone argues with you about that offer to send them a digital picture.
  22. K- I can see how they would take one look at your Greyhound conversion..and think that it's a commercial vehicle. It's enormous..and probably VERY INTIMIDATING for a lot of tow truck drivers. Good for you to continue with AAA...you can't blame the whole company on a pair of clowns.
  23. FIVE-. I guess anything can happen...I guess everyone's experience will vary. The response time for AAA is extremely good.. local offices may have communication issues...I make it clear what I'm driving.
  24. Jim , yeah, that was a bad example.... what I should have said was...you can have an opinion about anything you want...but , things like 2 plus 2 equals 4....NO, you can't have an opinion about that. Facts are facts, and proven evidence shows that seat belts and many other safety equipment in vehicles despite the fact that it's government regulations has been an accepted fact for a very long time.
