SANDARA Report post Posted October 31, 2016 I will be towing my 2016 Jeep Compass. User Guide says put in neutral and put key in ACC. Nothing else to be done. Would this drain the battery? Anybody out there tow a 4 wheel drive manual transmission Jeep Compass?
kaypsmith Report post Posted October 31, 2016 Putting the vehicle in acc mode will drain the battery on most any car, I recommend using a charge wire from the coach.
ianbullock Report post Posted October 31, 2016 Hi Sandra, When you say user guide, do you mean owners manual? I have always followed the instructions in the owners manual to the letter and have never had a unexpected problem.
manholt Report post Posted October 31, 2016 Hi Ian. Have you ever towed in the ACC mode? I have, and both times had to either disconnect the battery, or as Kay said...learned that lesson real quick at RV park, when it would not start...both where Jeeps! ianbullock Report post Posted October 31, 2016 I have but only with the battery disconnected as per the owners manual. I tow Chevrolet. maybe the jeep manual omits this instruction?
manholt Report post Posted October 31, 2016 Ian, With a Jeep, it depends on year, model, automatic or manual...mostly year. My 13' don't even need the key! The 09' was as your Chevy and the 07' was ACC and the same as Chevy. Also, towed a Toyota Tundra TRD Auto in ACC, a 2500 Chevy Duramax 4X4 and 2 Chevy Colorado's V-8, 4X4...Chevy has been the easiest, besides the 13' Jeep I have now!
