truckr44@yahoo.com Report post Posted December 9, 2009 What kind of mileage could you expect to get with a Caterpillar 625-horsepower engine in a 45-foot Country Coach Affinity? I was told between 6.5 and 7.2, which I find hard to believe. Thanks.

The only factual data I am aware of is from a survey of C15 Caterpillar owners on the Caterpillar RV Engine Owners Website (an FMCA Chapter). Club Website: http://catrvclub.org/ Club Technical Website: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/CATRVCLUB/ Survey results: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/CATRVC...veys?id=1992366 This is one of the Yahoo Group sites, so you must register, but no cost and no junk e-mails from it. There were only three respondants. One reported 7.1-7.5, one reported 7.5-8.0 and one reported 8.0-8.5 MPG. Brett Wolfe

wolfe10 Report post Posted December 9, 2009 Brett,Once Again, thanks for all the information. I have joined the catrvclub, and now am searching for heating problems with the motor and fuel mileage. What kind of "heating problem"? I will be doing the Maintenance Seminars at the Cat RV Club Rally in Amarillo in March (before FMCA Albuquerque). Look forward to meeting you if you are able to attend. Brett Wolfe
tbutler Report post Posted December 10, 2009 Mileage one gets with a given vehicle can vary tremendously. I recently loaned my Trailblazer to another individual (actually Pierre was taking us on a tour of his home town, Montreal). While Pierre drove my Trailblazer, the mileage was about 8 mpg. I normally get between 14 and 19 mpg from the same vehicle. Pierre was a former police officer and didn't mince any gallons to get where we were going. I drive differently, always thinking about stretching that gallon of gas. The next day I drove and the trip took us much longer than Pierre expected! When we left Pierre and Diane, his lovely wife, to go to our next destination, we were talking about the travel time. Pierre said it would only take a couple of hours to get there and then he laughed and said Tom is driving so it will take twice as long. The moral of the story is you get the mileage out of a vehicle you want to get. It isn't only the hardware, road, terrain, wind also affect your mileage. Other than hardware, the biggest single factor though is the nut behind the wheel!
